A Closer Look at The 2024 Chevy Silverado EV

2024 Chevy Silverado EV

The 2024 Chevy Silverado EV is more of a classic electric pickup truck that features the same electric powertrain as the 2002 GMC Hummer EV. The Chevy Silverado comes equipped with a large battery pack that the automaker claims can provide a maximum of 400 miles of ranger per charge. This battery pack also uses DC fast-charging technology that provides the EV with up to 100 miles of range within ten minutes. Power in the Silverado EV originates from dual electric motors that deliver an impressive 664 horsepower and provide this truck with a standard all-wheel drive. The outstanding electric powertrain in the 2024 EV provides it with a peak torque of up to 10,000 lb-ft and a cargo load of up to 1,300 pounds. Another notable feature in the Chevy Silverado is the midgate truck design that allows you to fold down the wall between the cab and the bed for extra storage space. Read on to learn more about the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV.

Overview

With availability being the main factor in the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV, this truck has the potential to become the most well-known electric truck sold on the market. However, since all-electric trucks released by prominent automakers are new to the industry, the 2024 Chevy has a fair selling share of the total market share, of which the rest is dominated by the Ford F-150 lighting and the Tesla Cybertruck. According to Electrek, General Motors Chief Executive Officer Mary Barra believes that the 2024 Silverado EV will be among the most popular full-size pickup electric trucks. Earlier this year, the 2024 Chevy Silverado made its first debut and was listed among the rapidly-growing electric pickup trucks. Regarding the Chevy EV specs, this truck is generous in the passenger and cargo space. Unfortunately, the iconic automaker Chevrolet is yet to release the full specs and information about their 2024 Chevy Silverado EV. Like any standard EV, it is believed that the Silverado EV will come fitted with hi-tech features that include; Super Cruise driver assistance, four-wheel steering, and an enormous 17-inch touchscreen display. The 2024 Chevy Silverado EV is the latest offering in the Chevrolet lineup and is expected to be available in 2023. During its launch, this truck will be presented in off-road Trail Boss, Work Truck guise, and RST loaded trims. When the Chevy EV is presented for sale, it will face stiff competition from the Ram 1500, Tesla Cybertruck, Ford F-150 lighting, and the Rivian FIT.

Engine, Power, and Performance

Different from the 2000 Hummer EV, which is fitted with up to three electric motors, the Chevy Silverado will be powered by dual electric motors. This new engine setup will provide this truck with an impressive acceleration performance. Chevrolet claims that the base WT trim can deliver up to 510 horsepower and the top-spec RST with a horsepower rating of 664 hp. The 2024 Chevy Silverado EV is a beast in terms of torque and power. It packs a maximum torque of more than 780 pounds with about 1,300 pounds of payload. However, these power and torque ratings are only available for the top-spec RST model. The base WT model is low-end and delivers up to 510 hp and 615 lb-ft of peak torque. The WT model also features 1,200 pounds of payload and 8,000 of torque. General Motors claims that the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV has an acceleration 0-60 mph rate of 4.5 seconds, which is really outstanding for a large-sized pickup electric truck. All-wheel drive is standard in the Silverado EV and matches perfectly with the four-wheel steering system. The top-RST model will enjoy newly upgraded features such as an adaptive air suspension and an optional set of large, sleek-designed 24-inch wheels. The low-end WT model will come with standard massive all-terrain tires and several adventure-ready truck suspension features.

Charging, Mile-range, and Battery Life

The 2024 Chevy Silverado EV will come equipped with the GM's novel Ultium battery tech, which can be scaled up to provide electric power of as much as 200 kWh. According to Car and Driver, the 2024 Silverado EV has a 400-mile driving ranger after every complete charge. All trim levels feature the DC fast charging capability with impressive charging speeds of 350 kW that can add up to 100 miles of drive range within ten minutes. The high-end RST First Edition will include a 24-module Ultium battery pack, which is part of the truck's fundamental structure. Additionally, Silverado EV owners will be able to power other electrical devices by including 10-power outlets that provide a maximum power output of 10.2 kW. Chevrolet claims that one Chevy Silverado truck can charge another EV using an accessory charge cable. Unfortunately, the size of the Chevy Silverado's battery pack is yet to be revealed.

Interior, Cargo, and Comfort

The 2024 Chevy Silverado EV comes with a stylish interior that features; two-tone black and white leather upholstery, generous passenger space, a fixed glass roof, and the newly-added column-mounted stalk, which creates additional space for more cargo between the middle armrest and dashboard. In addition to the tall and aggressive appearance of the 2024 EV, Chevy's designers were keen on allowing a low drag coefficient to ensure the truck has maximum road mileage. For example, the front-end design of the EV has been designed to efficiently direct air down the body frame, thus, reducing excessive turbulence and drag. The truck bed sits about five feet and eleven inches, which can be further increased thanks to the EV's Multi-flex Midgate that adds another nine feet between the tailgate and cap. Furthermore, the center dash of the Chevy Silverado will feature a large 17-inch diagonal touchscreen infotainment display and an 11.0-inch driver instrument screen.

Bottom Line

The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV is expected to make its first debut in the spring of 2023. Chevrolet will release the high-end RST First Edition model featuring the brand's longest-range battery. The RST First Edition will entail an adaptive air suspension, standard four-wheel drive steering, and a Multi-Flex Midgate for added cargo capacity. According to Motortrend, the low-end WT model will be sold at an average price of $39,900, while the high-end RST First Edition for about $105,000, including destination charges.
