Adam Hughes is an American businessman who has worked his way up the career ladder to land at the top of one of the most successful financial companies in the nation. We were curious about how he came to be the leader of the fintech startup Amount.

1. Adam Hughes is a native of Illinois

Mr. Hughes has spent most of his life living in the state of Illinois, in the Chicago area. According to Crunchbase, he graduated from high school and enrolled in college courses. He began attending classes at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois in 1999. In 2001 he spent time at the University College in London, England. Mr. Hughes graduated from Northwestern in 2003.

2. He believes in volunteering

Adam Hughes believes in giving back to the local community through volunteerism. He is an active member and pledged of Founders Pledge, an investor and entrepreneur’s organization. Each member of this group has pledged to donate a substantial amount of proceeds earned in the future to worthy and charitable causes. He joined in May of 2017 and is still a member today.

Hughes is also a fundraising volunteer for JDRF International, an organization that raises funds to help needy children throughout the world. He has been a member of this organization since January of 2017.

3. Adam began his professional career as a consultant

According to his LinkedIn profile page, Mr. Hughes’ first job after college was with a financial services company called Accenture in the greater Chicago area. He joined the firm as a consultant in September of 2004. He spent 2 years and 2 months with Accenture, leaving in October of 2006 to take a position with greater responsibility with another financial firm.

4. Hughes was employed at Enova Financial

In October of 2006, Mr. Hughes was hired by Enova Financial of Chicago, Illinois. He quickly proved his value and was promoted twice during his tenure at Enova. His first job was as a senior program manager. within 1 year and 5 months on the job, he was moved to the position of senior strategy and operations manager. Just a year and 6 months later, he was made the head of product and marketing, United Kingdom Installment Lending for the firm. He spent a total of 6 years and 3 months with Enova before moving on to a company that offered him a higher-level position.

5. Adam Hughes left Enova Financial to work for Avant

Avant is a prestigious financial firm in the greater Chicago area. Adam was hired as the vice president of marketing and operations in December of 2012. Within 1 year and 1 month, he was promoted to the position of Chief Operating Officer in December of 2013. A second promotion was offered in May of 2016 when he was named the president and chief operating officer of the company. He spent a total of 6 years and 9 months with Avant, before moving on to yet another new height in his executive leadership career.

6. Hughes left Avant to join Amount

In August of 2019, Adam was named as the president and chief operating officer of Amount. It is a technology financial institution that deals with the enhancement of digital consumer experiences. It’s a leader in the industry and under Mr. Hughes’ leadership, the firm has made substantial progress in its growth and expansion. After Adam was with Amount for just 7 months, he was named the chief executive officer of the firm. He has served as president and CEO since February of 2020.

7. Adam Hughes is the leader of a unicorn

Hughes stands at the helm of a wildly successful financial institution. He manages a company that deals with nearly $2 trillion in assets and financial services. Its customer base is roughly in the neighborhood of 50 million customers within the United States operations. Amount has by far exceeded the required $1 billion in valuation to join this elite group of successful companies.

8. Adam Hughes will go down in the history of Avant

According to Medium, Adam Hughes made history when he joined the financial firm Avant. When he joined the financial firm, he was the first employee that the new startup ever hired. He will fondly be remembered as such although he left Avant to further his blossoming career in leadership. This is a memory that he will hold forever.

9. He knows the value of partnerships

Hughes has achieved astronomical success throughout his career in the financial arena. He has spent his entire career in the lending segment of the financial industry and he has learned a lot through his years in the business. Amount is a company that grew out of Avant, his previous employer, and he continues to lead the company forward with a strategy that includes forming key partnerships to achieve that growth. It’s recently been announced that Amount is planning to offer a new point of sale lending solution.
