The 10 Best Pinot Grigios Money Can Buy

Depending on your personal taste, you might be a big fan of one type of wine over another. A lot of people really enjoy pinot grigio for both its lightness and its combination of sweetness with a certain dry quality that is very hard to master in the correct balance. As a matter of fact, it's so hard to balance that it can be difficult to find a truly good pinot grigio that brings out all of the right qualities without overdoing some of the lesser ones that you would rather not have in abundance. Below are 10 of the best pinot grigio wines that money can buy. Even if you've tried this kind of wine in the past and you were less than impressed, you’d be doing yourself a favor to try one of these. Why, you ask? Unless you've tried one of the wines on this list, you haven't truly had a top-ranking pinot grigio. There is a major difference between the top-ranking line and some run-of-the-mill bottles that you bought at the local supermarket (although some on this list can indeed be purchased at the supermarket). Therefore, you owe it to yourself to try one of the best before you make up your mind that this isn't a wine that is particularly suitable to your tastes. Chances are, you’ll change your mind after you try one of these.

10. Jermann Pinot Grigio Venezia Giulia IGT 2018

Is it really possible to get a top quality wine for just $23 a bottle? If this is what you purchased, then the answer is yes. It's hard to believe that this one can be had for less than $25, but it's the truth. It's also one of the most well done wines in existence. Here, you get all of the fruity notes that really bring a wine to life without everything else that tends to mask the flavor and bring it down. It's fresh, refreshing to the palate and pairs well with virtually anything you choose to pair it with. Although it doesn't have an impact on the actual taste of the wine itself, it's also worth noting that the cap is a regular screw cap, not a cork.

9. Mack & Schuhle ‘Art of the Earth’ Pinot Grigio Terre Siciliane IGT 2019

This is a light, refreshing wine that has just the right amount of acidity to get your attention without being so overdone that you can only drink a sip or two before you're finished. It also has notes of fresh pear which go incredibly well with the level of acidity in the wine. Surprisingly, you can purchase an entire bottle for only $9 but it tastes like it's something worth several times that amount. If you're on a serious budget and you want to have a dinner party while making your friends believe that the wine you purchased is on the high end of the scale, this is definitely the one to go with because they'll never know any better.

8. Alois Lageder ‘Riff’ Pinot Grigio 2019

Just because you're looking at a list of the best pinot grigio that money can buy doesn't necessarily mean that the bottle in question has to cost an arm and a leg order to qualify. If you're going by taste alone, then this one has to make the list, even though it only costs $10 a bottle. It's a light, refreshing wine that’s slightly more fun than some of the other options on this list. That's okay. Just because you're talking about fine wine, there's no need to get stuffy about things. It tastes like you've just eaten fresh apples and it sits lightly on the palate. You really can't go wrong with it, regardless of what you pair it with.

7. Cantina Tramin - Kellerei Tramin Pinot Grigio 2018

This one is definitely for those with a more discerning palate. It has a lot more depth than many of the other wines on this list and it has a tendency to really get a grip on you and not let go from the first sip until the last. It's also got a lot of minerals and that is reflected in the taste, but in the best way possible. You can buy a bottle for $16 and it's definitely one that you;ll want to try because it's probably not quite like anything you’ve ever had before.

6. Fel Anderson Valley Pinot Gris 2019

For about $25, this wine has a depth and complexity to it that will surprise almost anyone. That being said, the wine also has a tendency to be light on the palate and even to refresh it in a way that few other wines are capable of doing. It's very difficult to find one that's capable of doing both things because there is a balance that must be struck that is exceedingly difficult to manage.

5. Cantina Termeno - Kellerei Tramin Selections ‘Unterebner’ Pinot Grigio 2017

When people try this wine, the first thing that usually notices is that it's not like anything they’ve ever had before. It's complex and has an enormous amount of depth to it with a strong hint of vanilla. It's a wine that can be enjoyed completely on its own or with a meat and cheese plate. It's definitely a high-end wine as far as the taste goes, but you won't have to pay an arm and a leg for it. You can purchase a bottle for $31.

4. King Estate Pinot Gris 2018

This is a good no nonsense wine that has a solid balance between acidity and fruity notes. It's probably not the most complex wine that you'll ever try, but it's definitely something that's great for a night with friends or even when you just want to grab a bottle of good, inexpensive wine and enjoy yourself. You can purchase a bottle for $16.

3. Cavit Pinot Grigio Delle Venezie IGT 2019

Sometimes it's the simple things in life that truly turn out to be the best. That's definitely the case with this wine. There's nothing complicated or complex about it. It's very simple and straightforward with a good balance between acidity and a refreshing lift on the palate, complete with fruity notes. It pairs very well with a cheese plate or with lunch. Perhaps the best part is that it's only $9 a bottle, but it tastes like something that's far more well-crafted.

2. Cavit Alta Luna Pinot Grigio Vigneti Delle Dolomiti IGT 2018

You can buy this one for less than $10 at the supermarket, but it definitely doesn’t taste like something that can be had for that price. In fact, it’s a wine that has just the perfect balance of acidity and fruity notes. It will clean your palate without making you feel nauseous in the process. Better still, it pairs well with just about anything.

1. Regalato Pinot Grigio 2019

This one is also less than $10 a bottle, but it tastes so good! It’s got just the right amount of acidity coupled with delicious fruity notes and a light palate lifting taste that you won’t ever forget, for all the best possible reasons. It’s one that you just have to try in order to truly appreciate.
