1. Bill Lear to Canadair
Bill Lear started his career in aviation in 1931. He helped develop aviation electronics and instruments. After selling his interest in his company, Lear Incorporated, in 1962 Bill Lear working on a variety of projects. After resigning as Chairman of Lear Jet in 1969, Lear had a lot of ideas. One of his designs was for a small business jet that would handle like a commercial jet. Lear sold the exclusive rights to produce and develop his design to Canadair in 1976.
2. Bill Lear's design
Bill Lear's design for a private business jet, the LearStar 6000 Business Jet, that handled like a commercial airplane was rough. However, it consisted of a wide fuselage that would allow for a bigger cabin to accommodate seating configurations and allow for passengers to walk about the cabin. This was a feature that no other business aircraft had at the time. Lear's plan also called for a super critical wing to add to the safety and abilities of the private business aircraft.
3. CL-600 Challenger
Canadair altered some of Bill Lear's plans but the basic concept remained the same. Canadair renamed the concept jet CL-6000 Challenger.
