After graduating, Sielaff returned to Audi to design car interiors. He was promoted to the management of Audi’s Design Center in 1997, and soon after became the company’s head of interior design. Stefan Sielaff spent a few years working at rival Mercedes-Benz as design director starting in 2003, but he eventually returned back to his roots at Audi in 2006. Sielaff currently works as Bentley Motors design chief.

Looking at his design portfolio over the past several decades, it’s amazing how much of a legacy he’s created and how much his work has changed the field of car design. Audi A1

Audi A1

Sielaff oversaw the design of the Audi A1, an economical car with a very distinctive body. A year after its debut in 2010, a sportback version was released in 2011. It features three engines, and essentially rivals the Mini Cooper in style and fuel economy. Its interior is made to look and feel good, without a premium price tag. The Audi A1 has many customization options, but even the base model SE is well equipped with features such as 16 inch alloys and a sports steering wheel. Overall, Sielaff created a luxury car that looks good, has many practical points, and instantly became attractive to the masses. The A1 is one of Audi’s more affordable cars, and the price for a new one starts at $26,500.

If you’re looking for a handsome, curvaceous car that is capable in all kinds of weather, check out the A7. Its sole powertrain is a 333-hp 3.0-liter supercharged V-6, with all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic. Tastefully appointed with first-rate materials, the interior is one of the best in the industry. Handling is responsive, brakes are powerful. It may be pricey, but we think it’s worth it. 2015 and 2016 TDI diesels have been stop-saled until further notice due to EPA violations. The cost to own an Audi A7 starts at about $70,000.

Audi Quattro Spyder

Audi Quattro Spyder

Many car enthusiasts know of the Audi R8, but in 1991 Stefan Sielaff created the concept that started it all: the Audi Quattro Spyder. When the bright orange showpiece premiered at the 1991 Frankfurt Auto Show, viewers couldn’t help but be impressed. Its aluminum body made it significantly lighter than cars made of steel, and it has a beautiful exterior. Its 2.8 liter V6 engine generated 174 horsepower. Audi never did put the Quattro Spyder into production and only two prototypes were made, but the company did take many of its features and produce other cars, including the R8. Most notably, the R8 kept the Quattro Spyder’s permanent all-wheel drive system. Current prices for the Audi R8 start at about $129,000.

Mercedes-Benz CLS

Mercedes-Benz CLS

The Mercedes-Benz CLS was first produced in 2004 and is a showstopping mid-size luxury coupe. Sielaff spared no details when overseeing the design of the 4-door luxury car, and its muscular profile made it an instant hit as soon as it hit the market. Sielaff’s CLS has AMG styling, frameless doors, a diamond block grille, and LED headlights that give it a look of distinction.

This coupe was designed by Sielaff’s staff to be powerful and practical. It’s biturbo engines with advanced direct injection are powerful, yet has clean emissions and is very fuel efficient. Its luxurious interior and array of on-board technology that help with everything from safety to music, entertainment, and navigation make this car even more outstanding. Without customization, the price of the Mercedes-Benz CLS coupe starts at about $67,000

Sielaff and his team pulled out all the stops for Bentley’s first production SUV, and it’s an excellent combination of style and power. The five-door car was a unibody construction, full time all wheel drive, and a twin turbo W12 engine. It can reach top speeds of 187 mph and has an electronic active anti-roll bar that’s operated via the car’s 48 volt electrical system. The Bentayga has an incredible array of customization options and the technology integrated into it is impressive. The price range for the Bentley Bentayga starts at just over $229,000.

As long as Stefan Sielaff is in the auto design business, he’s sure to come up with more stunning creations. Currently he is working on a number of car designs, including those from Bentley’s consumer and motorsports fleets.
