1. Background and Education

Jochen Engert was born in 1981 in Wurzburg Area, Germany, hence he is presently 27 years of age. He is well educated considering that he was undertaking his PhD, at WHU- Otto Beisheim school of management, when the idea to start FlixBus came knocking. The PhD was based on research on Industrial service pricing. According to his Facebook profile before that, he had attended the Gymnasium Markbreit high school and later the University of Stuttgart where he undertook a diploma in business administration with technical orientation. He then proceeded to study at the University of Ottawa where he pursued a course in finance. The knowledge he gathered from these learning institutions has greatly contributed to his success in running FlixBus.

2. Current Location

According to Rocket Reach, Jochen currently resides in Munich, Bavaria, Germany. Most of FlixBus' operations are carried out in Germany, and being the man who makes the most crucial decisions about the company, it only makes sense why he chose to reside there.

3. He Left a Good Job for Flixbus

Apparently, before deciding to try out FlixBus, Jochen was in a good job and was also pursuing a PhD degree. He has been working at The Boston Consulting Group from 2008 right to the time he co-founded FlixBus. According to an interview he did with CLEVERISM, it was a tough call to abandon his job and PhD degree for FlixBus. However, in the end, it was worth it. Jochen had also previously worked at Porsche consulting and as a student consultant in Hovarth & Partners Management Consultants.

4. Stake at Flixbus

Jochen and the other Cofounders own 29 percent shares of the company via their company SEK Ventures. The other percentage mostly goes to private investors. Flixbus finds this arrangement more profitable hence plans to keep it that way - the company does not plan to raise an IPO any time soon.

5. He Works as a Volunteer at Business@School
