How Much Does Uber Typically Cost?

When you need a ride from one place to another and back, Uber is available to get you where you need to be. This mode of travel is becoming more popular as people discover that it’s easier to get a price quote with this service than it is with many other local taxi services. If you’ve been hesitant to use Uber’s transportation service because you think it might be too expensive, we’re here to show you how you can get a fare estimate online in just seconds, using their fare calculator. We’ve broken down the process for scheduling a ride with Uber and getting your cost estimate. Here is everything you need to know about using Uber.

How the Uber price calculator works

The Uber price calculator gives you an estimate of the total cost for using their services. Typically there is an initial fee, the price per mile, price per minute and the service cost. For Uber X, a typical fee is $.40 with a price per mile of $.97, a price per minute of $14 and a service cost of $1.58. The average cost for using Uber for a ride that is 18.09 miles in distance will cost $17. 95 when using Uber X type service. Your total will be displayed based upon the charge for the initial fee, the total for price per mile multiplied by the number of miles for the trip, plus the total number of minutes the trip took times the price per minute and the service cost.

Description of Uber’s services

There are slight differences among the services that Uber offers. UberX is a ridesharing service that offers the company’s lowest rates. This option seats 4 passengers. UberBLACK is the chauffeured limousine service that features a certified limo driver. The vehicle is a sedan that seats 4. Uber SUV is operated by a certified limo driver and the vehicle is an SUV that seats 6. Uber LUX is a step up from the UberBLACK service. UberXL service costs almost half the price of UberSUV and the vehicle will either be an SUV or a minivan that seats a minimum of 6 people or more.

How to get an Uber price estimate

Begin by downloading the Uber app. You can find it at http://uberestimate.com/. Next, input your destination. The app is good at pinpointing your location when using a smartphone. The Uber price calculator will bring up several fare estimates that tell you how much it will cost for each of them. You may choose from the type of vehicle that you prefer to ride in, and the number of additional people, if any, you’ll be sharing the ride with. The type of ride that you choose will determine the rate. Uber’s most expensive service is the LUX, followed by the SUV rate, then the BLACK, the SELECT the UberXL with the least expensive option the UberX.

Surge charges

If you live in an area where there is a high volume of demand for Uber services, Uber may charge a Surge fee or dynamic pricing. This is a multiplier that is added to your fare only. For example, if you’re in a metro area and Ubers are being used a lot during a specific time, during peak periods, the Surge fee may apply that multiplies the fare by the percentage of the surge in the area, but don’t worry about being surprised. You’ll be notified when you get the estimate and schedule your Uber ride. With Uber, there are no surprises. You’re given a detailed breakdown of the charges before you schedule with the service. The major differences that could occur in the price estimate and the actual price are if you keep the Uber driver waiting for you outside, then you’ll be charged the established rate for every minute that Uber is working on your behalf.

How to request a ride with Uber

After downloading the Uber App, simply enter in the address of your destination in the Where to? box. Users with a smartphone will be picked up at a default pickup point that is set by their current GPS location unless otherwise noted. To change this location, tap the pickup location on the map and enter the correct address. The Uber driver will pick you up at the location you specify. After inputting your information, you might be asked to confirm that this is accurate. The next step is waiting for an Uber driver to accept your request Afte this has been done, you’ll receive an update on the driver’s location and you’ll be given an estimated arrival time. When the driver is close to the pickup location, you’ll receive a notification.
