Crow studied for a degree in music education at the University of Missouri in Columbia. After graduating, Crow embarked on a career as a music teacher and spent her weekends performing with bands. She also recorded advertising jingles for Jay Oliver, a local musician and record producer. Two of her biggest jobs were singing on Toyota and McDonald’s commercials. From 1987 to 1988, Sheryl Crow toured as a backing singer with Michael Jackson. The singer also recorded background vocals for artists during this period, including Don Henley, Kevin Gilbert, Jimmy Buffett, Belinda Carlisle, and Stevie Wonder. In the early 1990s, Sheryl Crow recorded several songs that were used in television and film soundtracks. These included ‘Cop Rock,’ ‘Bright Angel,’ ‘Point Break,’ and ‘Stone Cold.’ She also recorded the duet ‘I Would Do Anything’ with Kenny Loggins for his album ‘Leap of Faith.’ Crow began recording her self-titled debut album in 1992. Unfortunately, by mutual agreement between Crow and her record label, it was decided that the album was not good enough for release. However, she continued to write songs, and some of these were recorded by artists such as Wynona Judd, Tina Turner, and Celine Dion. Crow joined the ‘Tuesday Music Club when she started dating Kevin Gilbert.’ Although it was originally a music writing collective, it became a vehicle for Crow to launch her debut album, with each of the members contributing to the content. Sheryl Crow eventually released her debut album ‘The Tuesday Club’ in 1994. Shortly after its release, Crow and Gilbert separated. Initially, the album was slow to attract attention until the single ‘All I Wanna Do’ became a surprise hit. The album sold more than seven million copies in the United States and the UK, and it won three Grammy Awards. Crow’s self-titled second album was released in 1996. Not only did she self-produce the album, but she also played various instruments in many of the tracks. She won two Grammy Awards for the lead single ‘If It Makes You Happy.’ In 1998, Crow released her third studio album, ‘The Globe Sessions.’ Sheryl Crow won the Grammy Award for Best Rock Album for this album. One of the singles from the album was ‘There Goes My Neighborhood,’ for which Crow won the Grammy Award for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance.

Her Career from 2000 Onwards

Sherly Crow recorded the song ‘Kiss That Girl’ for the 2001 film ‘Bridget Jones’s Diary’. Crow released her fourth studio album, ‘C’mon, C’mon,’ in 2002. The second single released from the album was ‘Steve McQueen,’ which won Crow the Grammy Award for Female Rock Vocal Performance. In 2003, Crow released the compilation album ‘The Very Best of Sheryl Crow,’ which featured many of her hits alongside some new material. One of the songs was a cover of the Cat Stevens song ‘The First Cut Is the Deepest,’ and it became Crow’s biggest hit since ‘All I Wanna Do.’ ‘Wildflower,’ Crow’s fifth studio album, was released in 2005. Although it was not as commercially successful as her previous work and it received mixed reviews from critics, it still reached number two on the Billboard 200. Crow’s next studio album was ‘Detours,’ which was released in 2008, and it debuted at number two on the Billboard 200. Her seventh studio album, ‘100 Miles from Memphis,’ was released two years later. Crow’s eighth studio album, ‘Feels Like Home,’ peaked at number seven on the Billboard 200 when it was released in 2013. Her most recent album is ‘Be Myself,’ which she released in 2017.

Acting, Television Appearances, and Other Ventures
