Where It All Began

T-Pain’s real name is actually Faheem Rashad Najm. He was born in Florida and was always fond of rap music. You might be wondering where he came up with the stage name of T-Pain. It is actually derived from Tallahassee Pain, which he picked because of the numerous hardships that he would endure while growing up in that part of Florida. He actually was raised in an Islamic family, but from an early age, he openly expressed that the had no interest in the idea of religion. It was at the age of 10 that he would actually turn his bedroom into his own recording studio. At that early age, he began making his own beats. It was that passion for music that would end up serving him well as he entered into adolescence and beyond.

If you really want to get to the root of how he became interested in music, you would have to go back to when T-Pain when was just three years old. That was when a family friend, Ben Tankard, allowed him to twist some knobs at a recording studio. Tankard was a major gospel jazz producer. Using a keyboard in his own room, T-Pain would then begin to create his own music. He also used a beat machine and a four-track recorder that he had been given.

His Early Career

You might say that T-Pain first hit the main stage of the rap scene back in 2004. That is when he became a member of the rap group titled Nappy Headz. He would also produce a cover version of Akon’s hit single ‘Locked up’. Akon would come across that song in due course and he liked what he heard. It was then that he offered to bring in T-Pain under his own label of Knovic Muzik. T-Pain was actually offered some other deals at the same time, but he went with Akon. For his part, Akon was offering to take T-Pain under his wings and help him to develop a niche in the rap business that would prove to be rather lucrative. Akon ended up living up to his end of the bargain, which is a primary reason why T-Pain has been able to achieve a net worth of $35 million already.

Turning Towards Singing

Ironically, T-Pain was discovered for his rapping, but he quickly turned to singing once he had a record deal. It was his first album titled Rappa Ternt Sanga that debuted back in December of 2005. That album would reach spot 33 on the Billboard 200. Since then, it has been certified Gold due to the fact that is sold in excess of 500,000 albums. Prior to that, T-Pain released the single I’m Spring in August of that same year. It would reach the eighth spot on the Billboard Hot 100. It would also become the number nine song on the Hot R&B/Hip Hop songs chart. He would have another charting topping single released that same year. His career was off and running at the point.
