10 Things to do in Corpus Christi for First Time Visitors

Having the opportunity to travel to different places is probably one of the most exciting things that any person could ever do. There’s just something about having the chance to go somewhere that you don’t see everyday and do things that you may not have the opportunity to do otherwise. If you’re in Corpus Christi, Texas, there are plenty of things to do. One thing’s for sure, when you visit this place, you don’t have to worry about running out of things to keep you busy. If you’ve never been there before, you’re in for a real treat. Below are just 10 of the things that you might want to do as a first-time visitor. If you manage to get through all of them, there are plenty more to choose from.

1. Padre Island

Who doesn’t love having the chance to enjoy a nice beach or even get out on the water? If that’s something that appeals to you, then Padre Island is a must. The good news is that you might be able to do more than just visit. If you’re lucky, you can even snag some accommodations on the island so you can spend all of your down time there when you’re not out doing other exciting things.

2. Texas State Aquarium

If you love the ocean, you’re bound to love it here. You’ll get to see coral barriers up close and personal, not to mention having the opportunity to see real sharks and dolphins, all in one place. It also provides you with a near-perfect learning opportunity so you can figure out how these animals coexist with each other, as well as the dangers they’re facing in a modern-day world.

3. USS Lexington

This is a great opportunity for anyone that’s interested in history or the military. This was a ship that was once active as part of the naval fleet and today, it serves as a floating museum as well as a tribute to those that once served on it. If you plan on going, get ready for a full-fledged history lesson that’s far more interesting than anything you ever experienced in a classroom. There’s even an IMAX film and different aircraft that you can explore, allowing you to immerse yourself in the history of the ship and of those who served on it.

4. Mustang Island State Park

Who wouldn’t love to have an opportunity to spend time at a state park that borders a beach where you can have a picnic or go bird-watching? If you like things that move along a little more quickly, you can take advantage of one of the many Park Ranger programs available on the island. It really is unlike anything you’ve ever experienced before and you’re not likely to experience anything quite like it again.

5. Corpus Christi Bay

If you like adventure or you love being on the water, you can’t pass this one up. The bay is basically a sheltered harbor but there are so many activities that you can do there you’ll be lucky to fit them all in before you have to leave. One of the most popular activities here is windsurfing. If you’ve never tried it before, you are probably in for the adventure of a lifetime and it’s something you’ll remember for the rest of your life.

6. Hurricane Alley Waterpark

If you like the idea of being in the water, yet you’re not so crazy about sharing that water with sharks, you might be happier to visit this water park. There, you can get all the water you want and then some on the many slides and pools that they have for your enjoyment.

7. South Texas Botanical Gardens and Nature Center

Perhaps you prefer activities on dry land. If that’s the case, you can learn about every type of plant that grows in South Texas and take tours to boot.

8. Port Aransas Beach

If you think California is the only place where you can go surfing, think again. The waters off Port Aransas Beach are well-known for their waves, making it a popular place for surfers of all ages.

9. Corpus Christi Museum of Science & History

It wouldn’t be a complete trip without a little bit of a science lesson. It doesn’t matter what you’re interested in, they have something to fit everyone’s niche here.

10. The Art Museum of South Texas

If you’re a little bit more into art than you are into water sports or science, Corpus Christi has that covered, too. Here, you can enjoy all kinds of art, ranging from paintings to photographs and even sculptures.
