We’ve reviewed dozens of recent models and if you’re looking for a midsize SUV that will meet your needs and satisfy your personal preferences, here are the top 20 for 2019 and why we think they’re so special.  Using information collected from US News, Car and Driver, KBB, Motortrend, and Edmunds were able to compile our own list with our own criteria including affordability, quality, and comfort.

20. 2019 Dodge Journey – $23,645 – $35,295

The Dodge Journey is an affordably priced midsize SUV that gets high marks for its safety features with an 8.4 rating out of a possible 10. Although overall, it’s been given a 7.5 for interior and 6.3 for performance, we like the spaciousness with room to seat 7 with the third row seating option. The gas mileage isn’t bad for an SUV with 19 mpg city and 25 on the highway. It’s also equipped with an intuitive infotainment system. It’s also packed with safety features to make driving your family a safer experience thanks to the driver, passenger, front head and rear head air bag systems, 4 wheel ABS and 4 wheel disc brakes, brake assist, electronic stability control, daytime running lights, child safety locks and traction control.

19. 2019 Toyota 4Runner – $35,110 – 47,200

The Toyota 4 Runner comes in nineteenth place with excellent ratings for safety with an 8.6 out of 10, a 7.4 for performance with 7 for the interior and its creature comforts and a 4 out of 5 for reliability according to JD Power ratings. What we liked most about the 2019 4 Runner is its new nightshade appearance package that is offered for the limited model, the ample cargo space, and its excellent off road capacity. It also received above average scores in reliability. On the down side, the interior design could use a face lift and the ride is a bit stiff. It caould also use a bump in fuel economy and maybe a larger infotainment screen, but aside from these minor annoyances that aren’t deal breakers, it’s an amazing mid size SUV.

The GMC Acadia is handsomely styled and it has plenty of room that seats up to seven passengers comfortably, making it an excellent choice for family transportation. The infotainment system is well connected and it also comes packed with luxury features including the capabilities for listening to high quality music selections or watching your favorite movie on long trips. This model is a mid size crossover SUV with a smaller body and great performance thanks to its V6 engine. The fuel efficiency is rated at 19 city and 25 highway which is good or a midsize SUV and it’s also available with adaptive suspension for greater riding comfort. There’s also room for cargo when you fold down the third seat and the acceleration is brisk.

17. 2019 Chevrolet Blazer – Starting at $29,995

The new Chevorlet Blazer isn’t a cheap rig to purchase, but the pricing is moderate for what you get, making it a good value. It’s sportier than ever with excellent responsiveness making it fun to drive, thanks to the peppy V-6 engine. It’s one of the more ruggedly styled mid size SUVs on the market today and its packed with desirable features with top trims if you’re into a luxury cabin in a vehicle that is just as comfortable off of the road as it is on it.

16. 2019 Nissan Pathfinder – $32,225 – $45,255

The Nissan Pathfinder is a little more expensive than Chevy’s Blazer, but it offers a little better fuel economy with 20 mpg in the city and 27 on the highway for 23 mpg combined. It gets a 4.2 out of 5 rating overall from the experts and a 3.9 out of 5 from consumers. What we liked the most about this vehicle is that there is plenty of room to seat 7 passengers with the 3rd row seating, which folds up when you’d rather have the cargo space. It is loaded with power with a V6 engine as standard equipment that churns 284 horsepower. The safety features are also excellent with blind spot monitoring, forward collision mitigation and an easy to navigate infotainment system for driving and riding pleasure.

15. 2019 Ford Explorer – $32,365 – $54,165

The new Ford Explorer is the 15th in ranking in our list of best mid sized SUVs for 2019. The automaker made a few small changes in the features that are available including a variety of trim levels. Its in the fifth generation so Ford has had time to work out the kinks and improve the Explorer and fans of this model love the quiet and comfortable cabin along with the easy to use tech features and infotainment system. The acceleration is strong thanks to the turbocharged V6 engine. The only major drawback is that the legroom in the third row could be improved.

14. 2019 Nissan Murano – $31,370 — $45,230

We love the new aggressive aesthetic that the 2019 Murano has over its predecessor for 2018. It’s available in an all wheel or front wheel drive and there is plenty of power generated by the 3.5 liter V6 engine that generates 260 horsepower, mated with a continuously variable automatic transmission. There are some nice tech features included such as the choice of platinum trim levels or the SV which gives you a panoramic moonroof, a Bose premium audio system, and a 360 degree camera system and the SL tech package adds an extra advanced safety and driver assistance technology bundle to the deal. It seats 5 and gets 23 mpg combined fuel efficiency.

13. 2019 Buick Enclave – $56,630

The high price might be a bit offputting at first, but the 2019 Buick Enclave is a luxury crossover that delivers on creature comforts with plenty of room within its three row seat configuration. It offers passenger comfort as well as plenty of cargo room to haul your goodies. It does remarkably well in terms of styling and great aesthetics and what we love the most about it is the amazing interior space for its class.

12. 2019 Dodge Durango – $30,195 – $62,995

The Dodge Durango has made no significant changes for 2019, but none were really needed. It’s still in its third generation which began in 2011 and it delivers high on interior space with its third row seating and we love the optional 19 speaker Harman Kardon stereo system which is one of the options that increases the base price, but it’s probably worth the expense. The touchscreen is large in size and it has one of the best tech interfaces on the market today. We also love the exceptional towing ability and its off road capabilities. The fuel economy isn’t great and for a midsize it does feel a bit bulky, but we can’t have everything.

11. 2019 Chevrolet Traverse – $30,925 – $53,995

The Traverse is one of the top rated mid size SUVs for its ample power and spaciousness. The experts at KBB give it a 4.4 out of five and consumers give it the same rating. It’s one of the most high tech an high style 3 row seat layout vehicles on the market today with a decent fuel efficiency rating of 18 mpg city dn 27 on the highway. We can’t forget to mention the 5,000 lb towing capacity.

10. 2019 Volkswagen Atlas – $31,503

The Atlas is one of our favorites and has made the cut for inclusion in our top 10 out of the 20 best mid size SUVs for 2019. It gets 22 mpg in the city and 26 on the highway, but what we really love is the fact that the cabin is so spacious and the ride is smooth. It can seat up to 7 people and there is a cargo capacity of 21 cubic feet when fully loaded with passengers and you can expand this up to 97 cubic feet. The addition of automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring and forward collision warning as standard equipment is also a plus.

9. 2019 Ford Edge – $29,995 – $42,355

Ford’s Edge has been rating with some of the highest scores by consumers with an amazing 4.7 out of 5 overall and 96 percent of drivers would recommend this car to others. What they liked about the Edge is the fact that it’s a great value for the money because of the immense comfort on the interior, the excellent performance, its reliability and the attractive exterior styling.

Jeep hasn’t made a lot of changes to the 2019 Grand Cherokee and it’s still one of the best sellers for the automaker. It’s more aggressive than the 2016 edition and it’s redesign that shows how quickly Honda is moving the Pilot along in its evolution in a highly competitive market.

What we love about the Ascent is that it’s available in two impressive trims, respectively the premium trim and the touring. Both come with a 2.4 liter turbocharged four cylinder engine generating 260 horsepower. Other features include keyless access along with push button start. It’s filled with luxury tech features such as the auto dimming rearview mirror that has an installed HomeLink garage door opener that is programmable, a power rear lift gate and reverse automatic braking.

The Kia Sorento takes the fifth position in our top 20 mid size SUVs for 2019. What we love about this crossover SUV is its large cargo capacity. It’s one of the best choices for families with improved visibility thanks to the higher seating position and the driving dynamics with optional all wheel drive is also nice. The fuel economy is another feature which stood out in JD Power surveys. It’s environmentally friendly and drivers also love the exterior styling along with the interior design. The safety features and navigation system have also received high marks from consumers.

4. 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe – $35,900 base

The Santa Fe is one of Hyundai’s best vehicles in terms of comfort for passengers. They’ve updated their lineup with this new vehicle that features a third row of seating to their traditional two row layout. We’re also impressed with the 83.7 cubic feet of cargo space when maxed out.

2. 2019 Toyota Highlander Hybrid – $52,800

The Hybrid version of the Highlander is more expensive but it gets a higher rating than the gasoline powered version thanks to the use of electric power. The fuel efficiency ratings for the Hybrid version are 24 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. You get a 306 hp V6 with an electric transmission with four available trims and a host of advanced driver assistance systems and safety features.
