2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5

Every once in a great while, a new car comes along that completely exceeds all your expectations. It doesn’t happen often but when it does, it almost makes you feel like a little kid. The sheer excitement of seeing something come on the scene that is genuinely new as opposed to some old, tired reimagining of the same things customers have been seeing for years, is enough to make you want to run out and buy a new vehicle straight away. Which new car is it that is causing such a buzz? It’s the all-new 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5, and it’s unlike anything you’ve ever seen before. What’s so different about it? In order to find out, you have to take a closer look.

At a Glance

There are many things that set this automobile apart from its competition. For starters, it’s an SUV that doesn’t really look like an SUV, at least not when you’re looking at it from the front. If you didn’t know better (and you can’t see the rest of the vehicle for one reason or another), you would probably think that you’re looking at the latest all-electric sedan instead of a boxy SUV. It sits low to the ground and it has a rather wide stance, making it look a lot more like a high-performance sedan than anything else. As previously mentioned, it’s also all-electric, yet it’s capable of performance that easily rivals any car powered by a traditional internal combustion engine. As a matter of fact, it’s capable of generating an impressive 320 horsepower when all batteries are functioning at full capacity. Even when you’re operating in power-save mode, the vehicle still generates 225 horsepower. Even with that kind of power, it still has a range of 256 to 303 miles, depending on performance demands and whether or not you’re operating at a full charge. If you think that’s impressive, consider this fact. The vehicle can also tow up to 2,000 pounds, all while getting you to your chosen destination in both style and comfort. That’s not bad for a vehicle that runs on batteries. By the way, if you’re concerned about the purchase price of such a fine automobile, there is no need to be. The vehicle comes in three different trim options, the SE, SEL and the Limited. For the base model, you can expect to pay $43,650. The Limited is the most expensive trim option and it costs just over $50,000.

A Car Like Nothing Else

Why is Hyundai making so many big changes with regard to their electric vehicles? It’s largely because they want to be a leader in reducing their carbon footprint to almost zero by 2045. In order to accomplish that, they have to start making vehicles that are more like this one and less like the vehicles that they have traditionally manufactured in the past. That fact alone makes this car special, but that’s certainly not where its differences end. If you’re looking for something that makes it special on the technical side of things, you might like to know that it’s one of the first cars of its type ever built with what is called an intelligent battery system. What exactly is an intelligent battery system? It works like this. If you want more range (in this case, 300 miles worth of range), then you can go with a rear-wheel drive system that is powered by a single battery. When you make that choice, you get 225 horsepower. Suppose you want more horsepower. You can achieve that goal by engaging another battery system that gives you 320 horsepower while still maintaining 269 miles of range. When you engage this system, there are two batteries that power it, meaning that you also get all-wheel drive function. In short, the car is designed to put you in charge when it comes to how much power you want or how far you want to go. It’s a system that has been a long time coming, one that has been in the research and development phase for a number of years. It’s also one that makes this particular vehicle unique. If versatility and flexibility is what you want in an SUV, you would be hard-pressed to find anything more versatile than this particular automobile.

Designed to Impress

There’s no doubt about it, this is a vehicle that is designed to impress from the very beginning. If you’re not already impressed by its technology or its performance statistics, there’s a better than average chance that you will be impressed by its appearance, concerning both the exterior and the interior. That’s because it’s designed to look like the high-tech vehicle it is. As such, it has exceptionally clean lines and an uncluttered interior that let you know you’re traveling in style without making you feel like you’re being crammed into a small space in the process. As such, it’s been readily compared to upscale cars such as a BMW. Almost everyone agrees across-the-board that it is definitely in a class by itself, especially when compared to your standard Ford or Chevrolet. At the end of the day, this is the SUV that is believed to set the standards for practically everything that comes after it. Even the battery system will soon be making its way into countless numbers of other automobiles. This is a vehicle that has the power to change the face of the automotive industry, especially with regard to all-electric vehicles. It will be interesting to see how many of these new vehicles will be sold, not to mention how quickly its main design features end up finding their way into other cars that have just been waiting for someone else to light the way.
