A Closer Look at the 2023 Lexus RX 350 SUV

Lexus unveiled the all-new 2023 RX luxury SUV, which features spectacular luxury, road performance, and a vision of style. The new Lexus RX ushers in a new luxury SUV model of the crossover category with the inclusion of the RX F SPORT Performance for an improved hybrid powertrain and a highly-intuitive Lexus Interface that delivers better handling and improved driver comfort.

One striking feature in the all-new Lexus RX is the rear end and silhouette that perfectly blend with the SUV's overall design. In this post, we will take a closer look at this fifth-generation luxury SUV, the 2023 Lexus RX.

Overview

Lexus's iconic brand has recently launched its fifth-gen luxury large RX SUV for 2023. According to Caranddriver, the 2023 Lexus is a complete re-design of its predecessor, the fourth-generation crossover SUV.

Some of the changes made to the RX's interior and exterior include; a curved roofline that curves down into a tinted rear pillar, a raised spindle grille, and slimmer taillights with a sleeker checkmark design, and a lightbar at the center.

The amazing exterior look of the 2023 Lexus RX is finished with standard 19-inch wheels or the optional 21-inch wheels that provide a more sportier look.

Since the new Lexus RX is built on the latest brand GA-K platform, there is a high probability that all the models will be available in the Hybrid trim, especially in areas with strict regulations on emissions.

Nonetheless, the 2023 Lexus RX is a reasonably-sized SUV model, which is one of its main selling features, and the manufacturing brand made an announcement that a plug-in hybrid powertrain version is expected to be included in the crossover category.

Engine, Performance, and Transmission

According to Forbes, the 2023 Lexus RX comes with a wide array of improved powertrain features, most of which are electrified. This new SUV model is powered by four engines, but only details of three of them were released.

They include; a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine eight-speed automatic gear transmission for the base RX model, producing 275 hp and maximum torque strength of 317 lb-ft.

There is the F Sport Performance model, which is powered by a 2.4-liter turbocharged engine delivering 367 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque with six-speed automatic gear transmission.

This range-topping RX model is fitted with the new Lexus's Direct4 AWD system and can accelerate from 0-60 mph within 5.9 seconds. The third engine is a 2.5-liter inline-four hybrid that delivers 246 horsepower and maximum torque strength of 233 with a CVT gear transmission.

Although it is quite low on power output, it has a fuel economy of 33 mpg combined, which is better than the base RX model. In addition to the rear-mounted electric motor, the new Lexus RX F Sport Performance Hybrid comes with a standard all-wheel drive. It is optimized to improve traction on dry roads and icy or snowy road conditions.

Upgraded brakes and secure handling is fitted in the 2023 Lexus RX to allow you to experience exceptional road performance even during long road adventures. Compared to the Lexus RX 350, the F Sport Performance has a fuel economy of 26 mpg in combined highway/city driving, which is two mpg more.

Interior

Unfortunately, Lexus has not released the full information about the 2023 RX's interior, but there are a few things known. For instance, the wheelbase is extended a few inches longer to leave adequate legroom for rear and front passengers.

The touchpad controller that caused the user interface to be very difficult to operate and clunky has now been replaced with the new Lexus infotainment system.

This new infotainment system is fitted with a simple-to-use touchscreen designed with a pair of physical dials that allow you to quickly set the desired car temperature for the front-seat climate system.

Based on the numerous tests performed on the new Lexus user interface, it was proved that it was not very user-friendly. Still, it makes it easier for the user to easily navigate the infotainment menus.

The mechanical gear shifter used in the previous models is now replaced with an electronic one. Other notable features in the all-new Lexus RX interior include; a configurable ambient lighting, head-up display, keyless ignition, and a panoramic sunroof, among the typical tech equipment featured in a luxury crossover SUV model.

The 2023 Lexus RX SUV model is available in wood trim with the options of Black Open Pore and Ash Bamboo.

Safety and Driver-assistance features

The 2023 Lexus RX comes equipped with some of the latest driver-assistance features branded as the Lexus Safety System +3.0.

They include; pedestrian detection, lane centering, lane-departure warning, active lane control, curve-speed management, radar adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, blindspot monitoring, emergency braking, and motorcycle pre-collision detection, and other full-driver assistance systems.

Since Lexus is part of Toyota's products, it is no surprise that it comes with a wide variety of driver and passenger safety systems. The 2023 RX has replaced the previous slow-performing trackpad interface with the latest generation infotainment system that comprises a much larger 14-inch center touchscreen and a much more efficient user interface.

There is also a new parking aid that allows you to make head-first parking maneuvers rather than reversing into the correct car position as in the previous models.

Price and Availability

Although no official pricing information is yet to be released, the sale date of the 2023 Lexus RX model is expected to be by the end of 2022. The all-new RX Luxury SUV is available in six trims, namely, Standard, Luxury, F Sport Handling, new F Sport Performance, Premium, and the new Premium+ grade.

According to Motortrend, the pricing of the 2023 Lexus RX will be announced closer to the end of the year, likely to be sold more than the average $47,000 price of the 2022 Lexus model.
