Arnold Schwarzenegger just turned 71 and in his life, he’s gone from being an action hero film star to serious-minded politician. Throughout his life, he’s built up a massive $400 million fortune. He’s been in the entertainment, sports and political industries for over fifty years and he’s achieved the status of a superstar in many different areas.
His first million made in fitness
Arnold Schwarzenegger wasn’t born with a silver spoon in his mouth. His father was a police chief in Thal, the Austrian village where Arnold was born. He began working out in the local gym when he was still a boy. When he turned 18 years old in 1965, Arnie entered the Junior Mr. Europe competition and came in at first place. He continued on to enter the Mr. Universe contest and won the honor at the age of 20. He became a force to be reckoned with in competitive bodybuilding and by the end of his career in the sport, he had won seven titles in the Mr. Olympia competitions and five in Mr. Universe competitions.
Conversion from Austrian to Austrian-American
He was far from a millionaire in 1968 when he decided to relocate to America. He had saved up $27,000 and invested in real estate ventures which panned out well for the savvy young investor and within a year, he had made a million dollars. It certainly didn’t take him long to figure out a side gig in addition to his other talents. With a start like this, it’s no small wonder that he’s currently worth $400 million.
New kid on the block in Hollywood
Schwarzenegger accepted his first role as an actor in 1970 in Hercules in New York. He went on to film a documentary called Pumping Iron in 1977. Next in the progression of his acting career came his role as The Terminator, for which he was paid $75,000 in 1984. The film grossed over $100 million but he was just beginning to get into the business. When he starred in Terminator 3, he earned a hefty $30 million for his appearance in Rise of the Machines in 2003.
Other film roles
Arnold has had an impressive career in film and there’s been a lot of diversity in his acting. In 1982, his lucky break came when he starred in the leading role in Conan the Barbarian. He was on a steady roll from this point forward and after beginning The Terminator series, he went on to star in multiple other films as the leading male including Commando in 1985; Predator in 1987; the comedy Twins, with Danny DeVito in 1988; Total Recall in 1990; the comedy True Lies with Jamie Lee Curtis in 1994 as well as his other semi-serious/humorous role in Kindergarten Cop in 1990; End of Days in 1999 and many more blockbuster movies.
He didn’t need to make money in film
Arnold disclosed that he made his money in real estate and that he was never a struggling actor. Instead of settling for any role that would put food on the table, he had the luxury of being selective. He didn’t depend on the work, he just loved it and it showed in his delivery. He is a natural born actor.
Doing his part to make the world a better place
Schwarzenegger has been in the public spotlight as well as the hot seat in his personal life. His wife, Maria Shriver filed for divorce in 2011 after it was revealed that he had an illegitimate child with the couple’s housekeeper. Arnold was also accused of making inappropriate advances towards several women who came forward. He’s survived the scandals and he and Maria are still married. He was elected governor of California in 2003 and served the state in the political seat until 2010.
A long absence from film
Perhaps we became accustomed to seeing a new Schwarzenegger film every year or two, and when he moved on with his political career, we just figured this would be the end of his acting. This isn’t the case though. Although he’s had some cardiac issues are a few risky surgeries to get him back on his game, he’s alive and well, and planning to step back into the limelight. He’s planning to appear in the new movie titled Triplets, which is the sequel to Twins. In addition to this, there are rumors that filming is taking place for a new Terminator film that is scheduled for release in November of 2019.
