As we're approaching the new year there is excitement among truck enthusiasts about the new models that are just on the horizon. Automakers have spent the year in preparation for the release of the various new trucks and the competition has been tough so it has everyone on their toes. While not all new trucks will receive a new generation or copious upgrades, some will, but all are considered to be at the top of the game in our listing of the 20 best pickup trucks heading into 2020.

20. 2020 Honda Ridgeline

Price: $29,990 - $43,420

The 2019 model year of the Honda Ridgeline remained unchanged from the previous year but Honda has a few surprises for 2020. It's been rumored that the upcoming Ridgeline is going hybrid with an option for a gasoline-electric power course featuring a 2.0-liter 4 cylinder engine mated with two electric motors, similar to what is currently offered on the CR-V and the Accord with an output of 212 horsepower, but its believed that the Ridgeline will get a bump in power that equals its current 280 hp found in the 3.5-liter V6. The leaked information also stated that the new Ridgeline will feature a restyling with a new grille, headlights and an update on the instrument cluster on the interior. Rumors also suggest an updated infotainment system, built-in WiFi hot spot, and a suite of driving aids. There hasn't been a solid confirmation from Honda yet, but a Louisiana dealership is running with the information. The previous model offered a spacious crew cab, sophisticated all-wheel-drive system, a two-way tailgate, large in-bed trunk with locking feature, a great ride and superior handling with an independent rear suspension.

The Jeep Gladiator is going to be a midsize truck as a new release that begins its first generation in 2020. It's an all-new model that is inspired by the Wrangler SUV model and it will continue on the lineage of the Gladiator generation that was first introduced in 2019. What we know so far is that the pickup will feature a rugged character with on and off-road capabilities in the form of a convertible truck. Jeep has offered that the back seat is going to be larger than most other midsize pickup truck models and it will only be available in one engine size, but it will have a towing capacity of up to 7,650 pounds.

The new Toyota Tacoma is predicted to be one of the best midsize trucks for 2020. It will feature a few new additions over the 2019 model year including surround-view and underbody camera availability to enhance off-road visibility. It will also come with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Amazon Alexa smartphone integration for the first time, with power drivers seat including adjustments for thigh and seat high, rugged capability off-the-road, easy to use interior controls, a recalibration for the transmission logic, a composite truck bed with movable tie-down cleats and a power outlet and it will be available in a V6 engine with a 6-speed manual transmission. Rumors include a larger touchscreen and a new infotainment system.

17. 2020 GMC Sierra 1500

This is a large truck model that will be offered in a regular cab with a few new options over the 2019 model year. You can order yours in a new 3.0-liter turbodiesel and it's also available with a 5.3-liter V8 and a 10-speed automatic transmission with an optional set of cameras to give you bed view. Adaptable cruise control is also an option. The new Sierra 1500 will be offered with several powertrains to meet a variety of requirements for towing and hauling needs. It's going to feature a long cabin for superior legroom in the rear with a large bed capacity and multiple in-bed tie-down points. 2020 will continue in the fourth generation which made its debut in 2019.

The new Dodge Ram 2500 is going to be a heavy-duty truck that is built for power. It received a complete redesign in 2019, and we expect it to be unchanged with regard to the aesthetics. It received upgrades in the powertrains and transmissions with lighter frame components that offered greater strength and durability. 2020 will be a part of the fifth generation of the Ram 2500 and it will get a 6.4-liter Hemi V8 engine that delivers 410 horsepower along with 429 lb-ft of torque along with a high-tech cabin, a quiet-cabin for greater passenger and driver comfort and a few extra bells and whistles on the higher trims.

15. 2020 Nissan Titan XD

The 2020 Titan XD will be offered with stronger infrastructure and more beef. Nissan has updated the gas-powered engine and eliminated the Cummins diesel V8 option. It's going to come out with a 5.6-liter V8 cranking 400 horsepower along with 413 lb-ft of torque, a longer wheelbase, and every trim will feature 4WD with a 6.5-foot bed. It's also going to come with a 7-inch touchscreen with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and extra USB ports, an optional Fender stereo with 12 speakers. as a part of the first generation that was launched in 2016.

14. 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD

The new Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD is a heavy-duty pickup truck that will offer a towing capacity of up to 14,500 lbs. It will be offered in your choice of 6.6-liter V8 gasoline or diesel engine in a regular cab, a double cab, or a crew cab body style. This tough and rugged pickup truck will offer horsepower ratings between 401 to 455. The most notable feature of this workhorse is the massive hauling and towing capacity with a payload capacity of over 3,200 pounds. On the interior, it's going to come with comfortable seats with options for leather upholstery, ventilated seats and all will come with a quiet ride. It's not a high frill ride but it certainly is capable.

13. 2020 Ram 1500

The new Ram 1500 for 2020 is a large truck that will feature a 3.0-liter Eco Deisel engine with enhancements to the power and torque that it delivers over the previous model year. It's also going to see some new exterior styling packages which will include the Black Edition and the Night Edition. There are also claims for small improvements in fuel economy with rumors. of small changes to the optional features that will be available. This will be the second model in the fifth Ram 1500 generation that launched in 2019 so there won't be a lot of changes just yet.

12. 2020 Toyota Tundra

The new Toyota Tundra will be offered in a crew cab pickup body style with room for between 5-6. It's going to be available in a 381 horsepower 5.7-liter V8 regular gas engine with a 6-speed automatic transmission with OD and an auto-manual available in 4 exterior colors. This model will get about 15 mpg combined. It will also be available in a double cab long bed with an 8 ft. box, and in a 4x4 double cab with a 6.6 ft box.

Fans of Colorado will be thrilled at the number of trims and options that are going to be available for the 2020 model. It's claiming a fuel efficiency rating between 17-22 mpg combined highway and city. An extended cab pickup will offer between 2 to 5 seats with the base model extended cab 4x2 offering a 6 ft box, a 200 horsepower 2.5-liter I4 gas engine mated with a 6-speed automatic w/OD and auto-manual transmission, available in 8 exterior colors and other trims that come in up to 13 color choices. There will be a range of choices between 4x2 and 4x4 editions with engine sizes that range all the way up to a 3.6-liter V6 with 308 horsepower and up to an 8-speed automatic transmission.

10. 2020 GMC Sierra 3500

The 3500 model promises a heavy-duty workhorse That is going to be available in 5 trims. You'll have your choice between a range of 4x2 and 4x4 versions with double cab models, an 8 ft box and a powerful 6.6-liter V8 engine that offers 401 horsepower across the board, mated with a 6-speed automatic transmission with OD, and comfortable seating for between 5-6.

9. 2020 Ford F-350

The new Ford F-350 for 2020 is going to be available in a total of 6 different trims with 57 configurations available. It will be offered in a regular cab, crew cab, or super cab in either 4x2 or 4x4 models. All will feature a 6.2-liter V8 regular gas engine that generates 385 horsepower, mated with a 10-speed automatic transmission with OD and auto-manual. The box size ranges between 8 feet with 142 to 176-inch widths.

8. 2020 Ford Ranger

The new Ford Ranger for 200 will be available in 3 different trims and 13 configurations with 4x2 and 4x4 versions available. All models come in a 2.3-liter I-4 regular gas engine that delivers 270 horsepower matched with a 10-speed automatic transmission w/OD and auto-manual, and a fuel efficiency rating of 18 mpg combined. It will be offered in up to 5 exterior color choices in either a Super-cab or Super crew body style with seating for 4-5 and up to 23 mpg in some trims.

7. 2020 Ford F-450

The new Ford F-450 will be available in 6 trims with 15 possible configurations in either 4x2 or 4x4 versions. The regular cab features an 8 ft box with seating for 2 to 3 with the Crew cab offering to seat for between 5-6, depending upon the chosen configuration. Each will be available in a 6.7-liter V8 diesel-powered engine that generates 475 horsepower, matched with a 10-speed automatic transmission w/OD and auto-manual and a choice of 8 exterior colors.

6. 2021 Rivian R1T

2021 Rivian R1T

The new Rivian R1T has been announced and it is scheduled to be released at some point in 2020. Its a brand new model from the Rivian automakers, a new brand on the scene and they debuted their new all-electric pickup truck at the Los Angeles Auto show. They claim that it will be able to travel more than 400 miles on a single charge and travel through waters more than three feet in depth. It will come with a choice of three different batteries and will feature a quad-motor in an AWD edition that is standard. They further claim that it can move from zero to 60 in just 3 seconds and it is rumored to have Level 3 autonomous functions with a rating of 5 stars from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

5. Bollinger B2

The Bollinger B2 is another electric truck that is scheduled for delivery at some time in 2020. This model will only get 200 miles on a full charge but it charges on a level 2 charger in 10 hours to full capacity. It will look a lot like the new Jeep Gladiator with a boxy design. It is designated as a Class 3 work truck with a larger than the large size. They're still in the developmental stages with tweaks being made to their prototype and high expectations for delivery starting in 2020.

The Ford F-250 will come out with a massive towing capacity between 12,300 lbs up to 15,000 lbs. There will be a choice of engines including a 6.2-liter V8, a 6.7-liter V8 diesel, or a 7.3-liter V8 with horsepower ratings between 385 up to 475 and torque range from 430 lb-ft to 1,050 lb-ft. Body styles will be a regular cab, super cab or crew cab.

3. Volkswagen Atlas Tanoak

Last March the Atlas Tanoak concept pickup truck made its debut at the New York Auto Show. The German automaker has patterned the new pickup after its Atlas SUV. We've heard that the Tanoak could possibly be offered in America in 2020, and if the predictions come true it will offer a 276 horsepower 3.6-liter V6 engine with 8-speed automatic transmission, the same that is found in the Atlas SUV. It is a futuristic-looking truck we LED headlights and taillights with a rugged exterior.

2. 2020 GMC Canyon

The new GMC Canyon will be offered in 7 different trims with 20 possible configurations. Each variation will be powered by a 200 horsepower 2.5-liter I-4 gasoline engine mated with a 6-speed automatic transmission with OD, and your choice of 4x2 or 4x4 with a choice of 8 exterior colors and an average MPG rating of 19-23 combined.

The new F-150 model for 2020 has not received much in the way of aesthetics and it's going to be released with the same features as the previous model year but it is going to be available in a Power Stroke turbo-diesel V-6 of the XLT trims. Another change is that the driver-assistance technologies that they call Co-Pilot 360 are going to be standard equipment. You can also add a sport package to Base XL model trucks with three new color options in the Lariat and XLT models which will include Star white Metallic Tricoat, A Rapid Red Tinted Clearcoat, and the Iconic Silver. It's been rumored that the price range will start at $30,090 for the XL up to $69,080 for the Limited.
