Sports Utility Vehicles, aka SUVs, are becoming popular with a wider segment of the population. Originally, a practical vehicle for larger families, they’re made in a variety of sizes from compact to extended larger vehicles. If you’re in the group of drivers who don’t need a full-size SUV but appreciate the versatility, some great new models coming out soon. It’s time to start shopping around, so to help you make the best possible choice, here are the 20 best small SUVs coming out as we’re heading into 2020.
 2020 Honda CRV
It’s official tht a 2020 version of the Honda CRV is currently being tested for release as a new model year. The new vehicle will remain part of the fifth generation and spy cameras have seen the popular compact SUV out on test runs. Although Honda hasn’t been releasing a lot about their latest CRV, investigators have confirmed that there will be changes to the front fascia and grille, with chrome plating and a new design as well as a sleeker aesthetic. You can expect the same headlights, but there have been revisions to the tail lights.
2020 Hyundai Kona
The new Kona for 2020 is a subcompact SUV that comes with a sleek exterior that stands out in the crowd. It’s made for drivers who don’t require a lot of room but want good looks, high performance and an average amount of cargo space. The 4 cylinder engine is a 1.6 liter turbocharged which delivers good acceleration but takes it easy on fuel consumption. It’s been a popular vehicle in the past and it looks like the latest edition will add a few extras.
2020 BMW X1
The X1 is BMW’s subcompact luxury crossover vehicle which is fairly new on the market, but it’s an SUV to consider if you value versatility, but insist on luxury as well. The 2020 X1 is a member of the second generation which will now run on a front-wheel-drive platform. this version will feature a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four engine mated with an eight-speed automatic transmission. BMW claims that it will offer brisk acceleration.
2020 Mazda CX5
The new CX5 for 2020 will come out packed with an infotainment system featuring a Harman Kardon premium sound audio system with 13 speakers, along with a 12.3-inch digital driver display that helps you stay focused on driving while switching among the drive modes, adjusting the temperature and taking phone calls on a hands-free platform. A 9 inch Sensus touchscreen is also installed to give you fast and easy access to navigation, connectivity apps, and entertainment. It’s one of the most attractively styled compact SUVs for 2020 both inside and out, and although its performance, handling, and fuel efficiency are average, there are a lot of fans from 2019 who are willing to give the new refreshed version a try.
2020 Hyundai Tucson
The new Hyundai Tucson for 2020 is going to look a lot like its predecessor which received some major updates. There are a few subtle differences. The paint colors have been given it a bit of pizzazz, but the majority of design features will remain the same. The 2.0 liter 4 cylinder engine remains the same, but there is the option of upgrading to a 2.4 liter 4 cylinder for an extra 20 horsepower, depending on the trim that you go with. The escape has been one of Ford’s best sellers in the small SUV category, since its inception. 2020 will feature a total redesign with a curvier appearance on the exterior. Drivers will have their choice of four different power trains including a hybrid, a plug-in hybrid, and two turbocharged engines. It’s going to be an exciting year for Escape fans.
2020 Nissan Kicks
Nissan is continuing with its production of the Kicks. This is a small SUV featuring 5 seats, available in S, SV, and SR trims. All trims are front-wheel drive with a 122 hp engine mated with a CVT transmission. On the interior, the S and SV feature cloth seats with premium synthetic material for the SR. and heated front seats on the S and SR. The infotainment comes with an aux input, satellite radio, MP3 player and Bluetooth Connect. They’re all loaded with safety features including traction, stability, brake assist, ABS and a blind spot sensor.
2020 Mazda CX3
The 2019 version of the CX3 was a big hit with SUV enthusiasts as a crossover vehicle with multiple enhancements for comfort and driving enjoyment. The 2020 CX-3 is slated to be the second generation which is scheduled to arrive in time for 2020. They’re not releasing a lot of details about the car, but we’re expecting the next generation to be even more exciting than the first.
 2020 Jaguar IPace
Jaguar’s entry into the small SUV market was the IPace, first introduced in 2019. Still, in its first generation, the new 2020 model will be largely unchanged from the first. It will feature the same fast acceleration, regenerative braking, and smooth ride quality, along with exceptional steering and vehicle handling. It’s a sporty and luxurious small SUV for drivers with discriminating taste.
 2020 Jeep Compass
The new Compass will offer 5 seats with a fuel efficiency of 26 mpg combined. The starting price for the base trim will be just $22,105. The Sport model is a front-wheel-drive 4 door with a 2.4 liter inline 4 engine and 6-speed manual transmission with overdrive. It’s also available in a 4×4 version with a choice of 5 trims.
 2020 Porsche Macan
The Macan is a luxury crossover that is slated for delivery in May of next year. Although Porsche is being tight-lipped about the specifics, we do know that they’re going to be bringing a few changes, including a new engine in the S model, which will be a 3.6 liter V6 giving up 354 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque for plenty of power and quick acceleration, mated with a 7 speed PDK automatic transmission, and active all-wheel-drive as a standard feature. A few other goodies will include voice-activated navigation, Bluetooth connectivity, the PCM management with a 10.9 inch HD touchscreen, three-zone automatic climate control, and 8-way power seats with Alcantara seat centers. We’re expecting a big redesign based upon the rumors.
 2020 Volvo XC40
The new Volvo XC40 is the brands small SUV that is rumored to be coming out with a new minimalist cabin that has all of the sophisticated accents necessary for complete luxury. Intuitive technology is the main feature including energetic color options with diamond-cut details and distinctive decor inlays. On the exterior, the grill will be angled with Thor’s Hammer headlights, a panoramic moonroof, and a power sunshade with a special laminate that soundproofs the vehicle for a quiet ride. The new Volvo will feature a 9 inch Sensus intuitive touchscreen serving as the infotainment hub for using Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, navigation and connectivity apps, and a 12.3 inch digital driver display to help the driver stay focused on the road with easy to access temperature control, drive modes, entertainment, phone calls and more.Â
 2020 Porsche Cayenne
Porsche will offer a second small SUV for 2020 in the Cayenne Coupe, and it is going green with a variety of new E-Hybrid models featuring engines that crank 670 horsepower in their plug-in hybrid variants. The least powerful will feature a 3.0-liter V6 engine along with an electric motor and an eight-speed automatic transmission that delivers 455 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque for rapid acceleration. Cargo space is going to be a little less, but there are no corners cut on the luxury.
 2020 Audi Q8
It’s been confirmed that Audi is going to offer the Q8 for the upcoming year, and the new 2020 has been spotted by spy cams out on its test runs with no camouflage. The only real changes that can be confirmed are in the exterior with a bit more sculpturing on the side skirts and a new grille and lower diffuse. The rumor is that they’re going to be offering a mild hybrid diesel power train, but we’ll have to wait and see if the Q8 gets the RS treatment.
 2020 Lexus UX
The rumor is that Lexus is going to offer its UX F as their version of a UX crossover in a small SUV which will sit low to the ground, it’s going to be fast and the exterior is going to be sporty. They’re not letting a lot of information out at this point, but we’re fairly sure that the luxury brand is going to release a “spiced up” version for 2020.
 2020 Cadillac XT4
The new XT4 for 2020 will start at $35,695. It’s the smallest SUV produced by the prestigious luxury brand and it’s rumored to feature an athletic build in a compact and versatile SUV designed for driver and passenger comfort. They’re not getting much information out yet, but what we do know is that it’s going to get 30 mpg on the highway. With 258 lb.-ft. of torque, we’re imagining tht the acceleration will be immediate and quick. Cadillac is claiming that it will be the best in its class for legroom.
2020 Lincoln Nautilus
The new Nautilus will follow the refreshed 2019 version from the previous model year. The 2020 edition is slated to be a carryover model without very many changes except for an all-new front with new headlights and a beefier grille. There will be changes to the back exterior as well and possibly a few new updates to the gauges and the steering wheel on the interior. We have received confirmation that it will offer leatherette upholstery, 10-way power seats, an SYNC3 infotainment system and some modern tech updates for driver and passenger comfort and enjoyment.
 2020 Audi E-Tron Quattro
Audi test drivers have been spied giving the upcoming E-Tron S a test run. The rumors are that this vehicle will feature three electric motors that deliver 640 horsepower. It’s going to be a higher performance small SUV in electric form, that offers quick acceleration. Claims have been made that they’re going to offer this in an upgraded S model that will be beefed up to accelerate from zero to 60 mph in just 5.5 seconds, but it’s not yet been officially confirmed so we’ll have to wait and see.
 2020 Subaru Crosstrek
We’re currently waiting for for the arrival of the new Crosstrek which is due out any time. The current generation of this small SUV made its debut in 2013 and it is as popular today as it was upon its release. They made a lot of changes for the 2018 model year. If they maintain the same habits, we should see a new model that is similar to the 2019 version and we can expect a refresh in 2021, but it’s one of the top-selling small SUVs on the market today.
2020 Jeep Wrangler
Jeep plans to make some very special editions for release in 2020. The rumor has it that they’re going to offer one trim with an eTorque limited with a 3.0-liter turbodiesel V-6 engine, along with a 2.0-liter turbo-four. They’ll also be sporting LED for the foglights and headlights.
