Sushi

If you're like most people, you probably think there is not a lot to enjoy about visiting a sushi restaurant in Louisville, Kentucky. After all, it's not exactly like this place is well known for its sushi, nor is it by the sea. You might even think that you would be able to find something like hamburgers or barbecue a lot easier than sushi, but the truth of the matter is the city has more than its fair share of truly outstanding sushi restaurants.

You just have to know where to look. If you're traveling to the area, you might decide to take this list with you and work your way through it. Here are 20 of the best sushi restaurants in Louisville. They all have something about them that makes them unique, but they all have something in common, too. Of course, they're all delicious.

20. Sapporo Japanese Grill & Sushi (1706 Bardstown Rd)

This establishment is comfortable enough that you can enjoy yourself, even if you decide not to dress for dinner, as they say. The atmosphere is quite modern and the dining room itself is almost sleek in the way it's been designed, but it's not to the point that you would feel uncomfortable coming in as you are. As far as the food itself is concerned, they have all kinds of Japanese items on their menu, including a full hibachi menu. If you love sushi and you like trying new things, you're in luck because they’ve practically cornered the market on sushi rolls and the like, items that simply can't be found anywhere else in town.

19. Osaka (2039 Frankfort Ave)

It might be hard to believe at first, but this is actually part of a relatively small, local chain of restaurants that can be found in the area. The thing that makes it surprising is that it doesn't feel like a chain when you go in, as a great deal of attention has been paid to everything. The food there is quite traditional and it's also delicious. As a matter of fact, this little unassuming location offers some of the best tasting sushi that you're likely to find in the area. It may not have the fancy atmosphere of some of the other eateries on this list, but it's easy to understand why it is consistently a top choice among locals and travelers alike.

18. Asahi Japanese Restaurant (3701 Lexington Rd)

If you're looking for something that has a lot of variation in the menu, this is a good place to start. They have all kinds of sushi, including rolls and sashimi. They also have a full teriyaki menu as well as tempura. In short, you can find something here that will work well for you no matter what you're in the mood for. As far as the atmosphere itself is concerned, it's typically quiet and somewhat cozy. Some might even describe it as feeling subdued. If that's what you're in the mood for, great. If it's not, you can order takeout. They don't deliver, so if you want to enjoy the food at home, you’ll have to go pick it up yourself.

17. Oishii Sushi (2810 Taylorsville Rd)

This is one of the more casual restaurants on the list and it's also easy to understand why it's a common favorite.
