Rapper Big Sean might only be 30 years of age, but he has already amassed quite a fortune. He hails from Santa Monica, California and signed onto to the GOOD music label in 2007. You might know that as the same label as Kanye West, which explains how he became so popular so quickly. He would quickly move on to Def Jam Recordings in 2008 and to date has accumulated a net worth in the neighborhood of $16 million. Keep reading to learn how he got there.

His Jump to Fame

Most famous people get a big break somewhere, and Big Sean is no exception. His came when he released Finally Famous back in 2007. He must have been a bit prophetic because this is the mixed tape that actually got him recognized with the industry. Executives began to pay attention to his music, and his name grew around the Detroit area. Benefitting from having such a large audience in his hometown, it was only a matter of time before the success achieved from that one mixed tape would pay off and he would begin to amass his sizable fortune that continue to grow to this day.

The Early Days

Before a person begins to earn any money, they have an upbringing. No matter what type of life one has in childhood, that contributes in some way to who they become as they age. For Big Sean, it all began on March 25, 1988. He was born in Santa Monica, but wold move not long after to Detroit. In fact, it was when he was three years old that he and his mother moved to Detroit. His mom would not really be in the picture much during that time, so he was largely raised by his grandmother.

The interesting fact about Big Sean’s grandmother was that she served in World War II. In fact, it is said that she was one of the very first black and female captains that would serve in the United States Army. As Sean Anderson (his birth name) would begin high school at Detroit Waldorf School, he began to rap. That was where his real passion in life would always lie. A cool aspect of that is that he was invited to have a rap battle on the radio with none other than Kanye West. That was so successful that Kanye expressed he really like the freestyle method that Big Sean employed in his rap. To that end, it would only be two years before Kanye West signed Big Sean to his first contract at GOOD music. That is where the money started to come in.

A Look At His Career

Not long after he signed with Good Music, Finally Famous was released. At this time, Chris Brown was already one of the most famous singers of the day. He would sing on the hit single My Last with Big Sean. This would help catapult the album to the number three spot on the Billboard 200. The hit single Dance featured Nicki Minaj and that was the song that would be his first in the Top Ten. His career was officially launched.

In 2013, Big Sean released Hall of Fame. He would rap there with a star studded cast of rappers including Nas, Miguel, Lil Wayne, and Nicki Minaj. That song alone would reach number three on the pop chart, allowing Big Sean to gain an even deeper following away from just rap fans. His success would continue in 2015 with the release of Dark Paradise. This song would feature Kanye West, Ariana Grande, John Legend, and Drake. By this time, it was apparent that Big Sean had earned the respect of others in the industry. That album would go Platinum.

Where He Is Now

Big Sean is just getting started. He continue to make music even after having so much early success. He is now working on an album with DJ Khaled. The release date is not set, but it is sure to add to his wealth. So, Big Sean is a rapper who has earned most of his money from rapping. He did not get there easily. He worked hard at and proved himself early on. He still has a lot of good years in him to add to that fortune.
