How Brad Garrett Achieved a Net Worth of $50 Million

Brad Garrett

People that love to watch reruns of the show Everybody Loves Raymond obviously remember Brad Garrett’s character as Ray’s brother. There is no doubt that this show put the actor on the map in ways that he never could have imagined. In essence, he became something of a household name, even for people that weren’t the least bit familiar with his previous work. It’s fairly common knowledge that he’s worth approximately 50 million dollars, but how exactly has he accomplished that net worth? Obviously, much of it is through acting, but there’s more to it than that. Some of it will probably be quite obvious to you, but other things might surprise you a bit.

He’s Been in Show Business for a Long Time

Brad Garrett didn’t just start acting when Everybody Loves Raymond went on the air. As a matter of fact, he’s been performing for decades. Back in the early 1980s, he won a popular talent contest that ran on television at the time called Star Search. He came on with a comedy act and ended up landing in the top spot. For his effort, he won $100,000. That may not sound like a lot by today’s standards, but in the early 1980s that was enough to turn the heads of even the most well-to-do individuals. This is where he started rising to fame and becoming more well-known, both in the arenas of comedy and acting.

He Is a Comedian

Let’s not forget that Garrett is a comedian, after all. He’s not just an actor. He has his own comedy routine and has been making money through that routine for years. Granted, budding comedians don’t often make a lot of money and Garrett was no exception. However, he’s long past being a budding comedian. You could go as far as saying that he hit the big time in the comedy arena years ago. Since then, he’s become more and more sought-after, something that gives him an opportunity to make money aside from acting. It’s something that he still enjoys today.

Acting

Obviously, he’s made a lot of money as an actor. He acted in things here and there long before Everybody Loves Raymond became a show. Once he was cast there, he became far more recognizable. The interesting thing is that he wasn’t making nearly as much money as Ray Romano or even anyone else that was in the supporting cast. At the time, he was making only about 10% of what Romano was making and he was considered to be the lowest paid cast member on the entire show. During the later years of the show when Ramona was given a substantial pay increase, Garrett and his agent had to fight for him to get any pay raise whatsoever. Unfortunately, this wound up hitting the tabloids, something that Garrett was truly distraught about. In the end, the efforts paid off. Garrett ended up getting an additional $250,000 per episode and was given retroactive pay for all of the reruns of a show.

Royalties

Mentioning reruns of Everybody Loves Raymond, part of his 50 million dollar net worth comes from royalties. This is a show that is still immensely popular. As such, it’s shown on a number of different television channels. Thanks to rewriting his contract during the salary dispute, Garrett is given royalties from every episode that airs. It may not seem like a lot, but when you consider the sheer volume with which this show is aired, even years after its cancellation, those royalties can add up to a substantial amount of money in a relatively short amount of time.

Other Acting Gigs

Everybody Loves Raymond is not the only thing that Garrett has done. He’s been on other television shows and has appeared as a supporting cast member in a number of feature films. He’s managed to add to his net worth by doing this. As a matter of fact, it’s added a substantial amount over the years because he’s been involved in a number of different projects.

Creating Shows

A lot of people don’t know it, but Garrett also works behind the scenes in show business as well. It’s not always about being in front of the camera. For example, he helped to create a show on Disney Plus called Big Shot. Of course, he was compensated for his efforts, further adding to his net worth. While he enjoys being in front of the camera, he also enjoys having the opportunity to do something entirely different that challenges him, hence his reason for helping to create the show in the first place.

Real Estate

By all accounts, he’s just getting into real estate. He’s been buying a lot of property and even though he hasn’t sold a lot of it off yet, there is every reason to believe that the property he has purchased thus far will only continue to increase in value over time. As a result, he stands to substantially increase his net worth by selling some of these properties when the time is right. You might consider it a form of investment, only with something that is tangible as opposed to playing the stock market.

As you can see, there are a number of different activities that Garrett has been involved in and he’s been doing so for decades. All of these activities have contributed to his net worth of $50 million. Considering the fact that he’s still quite active in a number of different projects, it only stands to reason that his net worth will continue to increase. At the moment, Garrett seems to be perfectly happy with his financial status, and when all things are considered, who wouldn’t be? For now, he doesn’t have the highest net worth of any celebrity in existence, but the 50 million dollars is certainly nothing to sneeze at, either. When you realize that he is continuing to capitalize on that, it’s interesting to think about how much his net worth could potentially increase within the next few years. This is especially true if he gets involved in another major project.
