How Bruce Springsteen Achieved a Net Worth of $500 Million

Bruce Springsteen is a name that is recognized around the globe as he is one of the most successful artists of all time and has grown an international fan base. Due to the success in his career, he has accrued a personal net worth of $500 million. So, how did this performer get so rich? Bruce Springsteen was born in New Jersey on September 23, 1949. He showed an interest in music as a child, especially after he watched Elvis Presley perform on The Ed Sullivan Show. To support her son, his mother rented him a guitar, and he became a loner who just wanted to sit playing his guitar alone.

History

He eventually bought his own guitar after he was inspired by watching The Beatles perform on The Ed Sullivan Show. This led to him playing in a band called the ‘Rogues’, and they performed at local venues. His mom took out a loan to buy him a better guitar so that he could advance in his music career. Next, Springsteen became the lead guitarist and singer for The Castilles. He performed at several venues with this band and recorded two songs before joining a power trio called ‘Earth’ in the late 1960s. He then switched groups again, playing with ‘Steel Mill’ from 1969 to 1971. At the same time, Springsteen was trying to develop his own lyrical style as he was determined to make a success of his music career.

He continued to write music, and this led to him forming his own band in 1972 called the ‘E Street Band’. This meant that he could record his debut album ‘Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J.’. Springsteen was the unofficial manager of the band and would collect and distribute the earnings. This earned him the nickname ‘The Boss, and people still call him this nickname today. The same year that he formed his band, Springsteen was signed to Columbia Records. Following the successful release of his debut album, Springsteen was the focus of a lot of attention in the music industry. Critics particularly noted his lyrical poeticism. Despite the attention, sales of the debut album were slow.

A second album was released a year later called ‘The Wild, the Innocent, & the E Street Shuffle’. Once again, the album received great critical acclaim, but it was not commercially successful. Determined to succeed, Springsteen spent 14 months writing and recording his third album ‘Born to Run’. It is reported that he spent six months on just one track for the album; the albums titular single ‘Born to Run’. This was eventually released in 1975 and it became Springsteen’s breakthrough album. Now that Springsteen had finally released a successful album, it propelled him to fame on a worldwide level. It peaked at number 3 on the Billboard 200, which was Springsteen’s greatest success to date. The album led to Springsteen and the E Street Band performing in locations across the globe. Despite this success, he only released one more album during the 1970s. This was ‘Darkness on the Edge of Town’, which was released in 1978.

Bruce Springsteen’s success continued into the 1980s, and he released four albums in this decade. These were ‘The River’, ‘Nebraska’, ‘Born in the USA’, and ‘Tunnel of Love’. He also completed three extensive international tours during the 1980s. Between 1990 and today, Springsteen has gone on to release a further 12 albums and completed 12 worldwide tours. Some of the albums and tours have been alongside the E Street Band, while some of the work he has done as a solo artist. His most recent album was ‘Western Stars’, which was released in 2019. The last tour he completed was ‘Springsteen on Broadway, which spanned 2017 and 2018.

To date, Springsteen has sold more than 135 million records worldwide. Of these, 64 million records have been sold in the United States alone. This means that Springsteen is one of the world’s best-selling and most successful artists of all-time. Springsteen has also written an autobiography called ‘Born to Run’, says his website. This book was published in September 2017. It took Springsteen seven years to write the book, which covers all aspects of his personal and professional life. When the book was released, it came with a musical companion called ‘Chapter and Verse’. This is a compilation of 18 songs that were chosen by Springsteen personally to represent the journey he has gone through in his life and career.

Following a hugely successful career, Bruce Springsteen now has an estimated net worth of $500 million, says Cheatsheet. The majority of his wealth comes from his music sales and from his live performances. He has also made money from the merchandise sold on his tours, from appearances on television, and from writing his autobiography. In his personal life, he has been married twice and has three children. His first wife was Julianne Phillips, to whom he was married from 1985 to 1989. Although there was an 11-year age difference between them, it was Springsteen’s constant traveling that brought their marriage to an end. He then married Patti Scialfa. He had known her since the early 1980s, before his first marriage, as she had been part of the E Street Band.

Final Thoughts

Springsteen and Scialfa moved from New Jersey to Los Angeles to start a family together, and their son, Evan James, was born in 1990. The couple married the following year in a private ceremony at their Los Angeles home. Their daughter, Jessica Rae, was born just months after their wedding. They then had a second son, Samuel Ryan, in 1994. When their children grew older, Springsteen and Scialfa moved the family back to New Jersey to get away from paparazzi. Their luxurious New Jersey home is a horse farm that boasts a large swimming pool. They also have homes in Los Angeles and Wellington, Florida. Therefore, Springsteen has spent some of his wealth on properties.
