Everything You Need to Know about the Cadillac Lyriq

Cadillac Lyriq

There aren’t really that many truly brand new vehicles that are remanufactured these days. In fact, the overwhelming majority of them are simply continuations of vehicles that have been manufactured for previous model years. It seems that these days, the most that motorists can typically hope for is that an existing model be redesigned. If some of the automobiles that are currently being manufactured are suitable to your taste, that’s fine. On the other hand, there are those individuals who have slightly more discerning tastes and truly want to enjoy something different. If you happen to fall into that category, you might be very excited to learn about the new Cadillac Lyriq. It’s a futuristic looking SUV that is all electric and it’s more affordable than you might think. It’s also completely sold out, but that doesn’t mean that you won’t be able to get your hands on one in the relatively near future.

The Buzz

Clearly, there is a lot of buzz about this particular vehicle. As a matter of fact, Cadillac started taking online reservations for it before any of the vehicles even rolled off the assembly line, largely as a way to gauge customer interest. They had set the cap at a certain number of SUVs, somewhere between 10,000 and 20,000 that would be manufactured during the first run. Once they opened up reservations online, they sold out in only 10 minutes. That’s extremely impressive, especially when you consider the fact that this is a vehicle that does not operate with a traditional internal combustion engine. All electric vehicles are becoming more popular, but it’s been an uphill battle, to say the least. As a matter of fact, the overwhelming majority of drivers, especially those in the United States, have seemed completely uninterested in the idea of trading in their traditional vehicles for something that is healthier for the planet. There are a number of reasons for this, not the least of which involves bigger price tags and a distinct lack of charging stations that makes it extremely difficult to drive an all electric vehicle without worrying about whether or not you will actually be able to charge it back up when you need to. The fact that most of these vehicles take hours upon hours to charge doesn’t help anything, either. When compared to a more traditional vehicle that can be pulled up to a gas pump and refilled in a matter of minutes, regardless of how remote the area through what you’re traveling, it’s understandable that some people are reluctant to switch over to an all electric vehicle where things are much less convenient. Even still, it only took ten minutes for Cadillac to sell all of the units that they had approved for this first batch. Keep in mind, the Cadillac Lyriq is a 2023 model, meaning that it won’t even be available until the latter half of 2022. Despite that fact, people were not shy about putting their orders in.

It’s Popular Because It’s Different

Perhaps it is because this vehicle is so different from anything else available on the market that it’s already so popular. There isn’t a single example of this vehicle on the road yet, and it’s already out sold a lot of models that have been around for years. In order to understand why, you have to understand what’s special about it so you can gain more knowledge about the things that set it apart from everything else. For starters, it doesn’t look like your typical SUV. It’s just futuristic enough to give it an edge but not so much so that it looks like an eyesore on the road. It has flowing, blended lines that make it look fairly aerodynamic, even for an SUV. It manages to do all of that without giving up a lot of space for passengers or cargo and it still manages to look elegant, something that Cadillac was insistent on. It definitely doesn’t look like anything else on the road, but that’s not the thing that really makes it special. That comes with the way that the vehicle was designed and how it performs. You already know that it’s all electric, so what else is there about it that makes it different? You might be rather impressed to know that Cadillac claims it can go 300 miles on a single charge, all without sacrificing the creature comforts that most modern-day travelers have become so accustomed to. It may be an all electric vehicle, but that doesn’t mean that it necessarily drives like one. In fact, it’s a vehicle that has all of the information and entertainment systems that any other vehicle has and it’s got more than enough battery power to do the job.

Technology at Its Finest

The range of this vehicle and the fact that you don’t have to drive something that scarcely even has an air conditioning or heating system because there isn’t enough battery power to keep it running is definitely an advantage, but that’s not the only reason that this vehicle sold out in 10 minutes. It also has some of the most advanced technology that you could ever imagine. One of the most impressive pieces of technology utilized by Cadillac in this vehicle is called Super Cruise. It essentially works as an automated driver assist system that helps you drive the vehicle at cruising speed without your hands being on the wheel at all times. It helps you keep the vehicle in the lane without veering to the right or the left, but it also helps you change lanes effectively, even if you’re not doing the work yourself. In some instances, it’s sort of like having a Tesla, only it’s a lot more affordable. You might think of it as being similar to the trusted driver assistance technology used to help you parallel park, only this time you have something to help you while you’re actually going down the road at speed. It also has a comprehensive information system, as previously discussed. In fact, it has a 33 inch LED display that runs the length of the dash. You can get information about everything from the range that the vehicle has left to its overall performance, to the best restaurants at your destination. Of course, it also has comprehensive GPS that not only guides you directly to your destination, but also integrates that information into the Super Cruise system and helps you get there without your hands even touching the wheel. That’s not only impressive technology, but it’s also technology that has been proven to work. All things considered, it’s no wonder so many people are clamoring to get their hands on this vehicle.

Horsepower That Rivals the Competition

If you think that this vehicle is short on horsepower just because it’s all electric, think again. As a matter of fact, it offers approximately 340 horsepower and an astonishing 325 ft-lb of torque, thanks to its comprehensive (and powerful) battery system. That’s more than enough horsepower to let you haul practically anything you want. It also means that you won’t be going down the road at a reduced speed like some of the initial all electric vehicles were forced to do. In this one, you can drive it just like you would drive any traditional vehicle. The only difference is that you’ll be charging it instead of stopping at the gas pump. Speaking of charging, the vehicle can be rapid-charged at a dedicated charging station or it can be charged at home, offering you the ultimate level of convenience. Cadillac hasn’t released the amount of time required to go from a depleted battery to a full charge at a dedicated charging station yet, but it’s expected to be impressive. What is known is that even when charging the vehicle at home, you can charge it from almost fully depleted to completely charged in approximately five hours. Considering the fact that a lot of much smaller all electric vehicles require roughly twice as long to achieve a full charge, that’s nothing that should be dismissed. If you’re in a hurry, you also have a couple of other options available to you, even when charging at home. You can get a range of about 76 miles in 10 minutes. Give it thirty minutes, and you can get a little over 100 miles worth of range. Granted, it’s not the full 300 miles that you might want, but if you’re practically running on empty and you only have a few minutes to charge the vehicle, it’s at least enough to get you to most destinations and back without having to worry about charging it again until later. The fact that you can even charge the vehicle at home is a distinct advantage, as not all vehicles of this type give you that option.

Comfort That Knows No Bounds

Now that you know how much this vehicle is capable of from a performance standpoint, it’s time to get down to the really important things, like its comfort level on long trips and the types of amenities it offers. There’s little doubt that you will be highly impressed by everything the Cadillac Lyriq has designed into it. First and foremost, it’s easy to drive, thanks in large part to its rear-wheel drive configuration. If that’s not exactly what you were hoping for, don’t despair. Cadillac will be introducing an all-wheel drive variation in the very near future. The vehicle also features 8-way adjustable power seats and a glass roof that has an electronic shield that can be brought over it to keep the sun out when you’re not in the mood to deal with a hot summer afternoon. It also offers some of the most impressive vehicle lighting that you’re ever likely to see, with dark wood panel interior that is backlit in such a way that it almost makes you feel more like you’re sitting in your easy chair at home than in an automobile. Speaking of lighting, it also has choreographed LED lighting for the exterior that can be matched up to its impressive sound system. That’s right, you can go down the road blasting your favorite tunes and sync the LED lights on the outside of the vehicle up to the music. It might not be a necessary feature, but it’s definitely one of the coolest features that any automotive manufacturer has ever come up with.

Comfort Redefined

If you’re still not impressed enough to consider purchasing one of these vehicles for yourself, consider this fact. Those seats that are adjustable in almost every manner imaginable also offer lumbar support and heat. You might be thinking that it’s not such a big deal, as a lot of vehicles offer these features. That’s true, but a lot of them don’t offer lumbar massage and this one does. In this vehicle, it is actually possible to drive down the road listening to your favorite music without your hands on the wheel, getting a heated massage while you are headed to your destination. Not only are you killing several birds with one stone here, you have the opportunity to enjoy an experience that most people don’t get to enjoy for themselves. If you’re like most people and you have more things on your to-do list than you have time, this is also a great option because it gives you an opportunity to get things done in route and arrive at your destination feeling better than you did when you left as opposed to just wasting hours upon hours commuting from one place to another.

As previously mentioned, the car is currently sold out but Cadillac says that you will be able to order a vehicle from your local dealership beginning in the summer of 2022. If you’re wondering how much all of this will cost you, it’s not as much as you might think. The base model starts at just a little over $58,000, while the upgraded model with exclusive trim is selling for a little more than $60,000. That’s really not any more than a lot of other SUVs out there that have far less to offer. When you consider all of this, it’s no wonder Cadillac sold out so quickly. Who wouldn’t want to get their hands on one of these cars?
