After retirement

Charles Barkley has not had to worry about money or about having a job. Upon his retirement, he joined Ernie Johnson, Shaquille O’ Neal and Kenny Smith in becoming an analyst for the popular sports show, “Inside the NBA.” This was something that he had intimate knowledge of.

Barkley also entertained the notion of running for Governor of Alabama a few times in his retirement. He created a new television show on TNT that he titled, “The Race Card” which premiered in 2017. The interesting show took a closer look at how the United States is racially divided.

Loss of a small fortune

Although Barkley isn’t hurting for money, he’s given his share away through a gambling habit. Upon reflection, he estimates that he’s lost a total of around $10 million to the habit.

Endorsements

Most athletes who reach super-star status, as Barkley has, are made interesting offers to endorse products. They pay well for celebrity nods and he’s represented the Nike shoe brand, McDonald’s fast food chain, T-Mobile communications and later he became the major male spokesperson for Weight Watchers with the slogan “Lose Like a Man.”

Gold medalist

Not only was Barkley successful n his professional basketball career with the NBA, but he also won his share of gold medals when he completed at the 1992 Olympic Games, then again in 1996 in the sport of basketball. He was also inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

An ongoing career

Charles Barkley may have retired from playing NBA pro ball, but he’s far from retired. He’s consistently maintained some sort of activity that has kept him in the public eye, and with the status that he’s achieved throughout his profession, he’s well paid for each appearance. If you’re still wondering how Charles Barkley has built his massive wealth, it’s been based on pro basketball and the benefits that followed thereafter.

Nominations and Awards

Charles Barkley has received multiple accolades, nominations, and awards in his life. The most notable highlights include membership in an elite club of only three professional basketball players to ever achieve a total of 20,000 career points with 10,000 rebounds and a total of 4,000 assists. This is an amazing accomplishment for which he has earned a place in the history of the sport. He earned a place among the 50 greatest players of the NBA in 1996. In addition to all of this, he has also won two separate Emmy Awards for his contributions as a studio analyst in the sports industry and he’s also been nominated for five more honors.

Final thoughts

As we look back over the career history of Charles Barkley, it’s not hard to see how he made such a massive fortune. He worked hard using his natural talent and consistently contributed to the NBA through his playing prior to retirement. He still continues to give back through his insightful analysis of the games with predictions of what we might be able to expect from the current professionals who are shaping their careers in a field that he knows so well. There’s no disputing that the man knows his basketball and he’s pretty good at predicting the outcomes of pending games, but with the kind of experience that he has, it’s not surprising. Barkley is still going strong in a new phase of his career in pro sports, just in a different position.
