How Dan Schneider Achieved a Net Worth of $40 Million

Dan Schneider

Dan Schneider is an American television producer, screenwriter, and actor. He has spent much of his career producing comedies for Nickelodeon. Some of his most popular shows include Kenan and Kel, Drake and Josh, iCarly, Victorious, and so on.

We will discuss some of these shows in detail. Thanks to Dan’s numerous shows, a lot of stars owe their success to him. Some thespians who became stars include Ariana Grande, Kenan Thompson, Liz Gillies, Amanda Bynes, etc. Dan acted in several films throughout the 1980s.

However, when he switched to producing Nickelodeon shows in the 1990s, he would only make cameo appearances. That explains why some people may only know him as a producer and not an actor. The producer’s net worth emanated mainly from his acting and producer roles. It is time we mentioned some of his works. Here are details on how Dan Schneider achieved his net worth.

Better Off Dead (1985)

Dan plays Ricky Smith in the film. The film focuses on Lane Meyer and Beth Truss, who are a couple. Beth decides to end his relationship with Lane to be with a successful skier, Roy Stalin. Lane is saddened about the breakup and decides to commit suicide.

As if the breakup wasn’t painful enough, Roy continually mocks Lane. Lane gives up on the suicide idea and tries to be a skier like Roy. This movie had a budget of $3.5 million and did well at the box office. According to IMDB, it grossed worldwide at $10.3 million.

Happy Together (1989)

In this film, he plays the role of Stan. The film follows the life of Chris as he pursues a writing career in college. Due to a computer error, Chris shares a dorm room with Alex, who he presumes is a man. It turns out Alex is a woman. When they share a room, they quickly discover they cannot stand each other. Later, they fall in love.

Kenan and Kel (1996-2000)

The show takes place in Chicago and centers around two mischievous teenagers, Kenan and Kel. Kenan is a high school student who works at the grocery store, while Kel is his clumsy friend. This series was unique since each episode would end with the two characters breaking the fourth wall. The characters would interact with the studio audience and introduce the upcoming episode.

This show was so beloved that it has had a lot of reruns. Its first rerun was from 2001-2004. Next, it had a rerun from 2007-2009. Additionally, it has received some accolades. According to Fandom, it was nominated for the Directors Guild of America and Image Awards.

Drake and Josh (2004-2007)

The show centers around two stepbrothers, Drake and Josh. Drake is a dim-witted musician who is a ladies’ man, while Josh is an overweight, unpopular geek. Both brothers are usually involved in schemes that require them to get money or girls. The brothers constantly have to put up with their horrible little sister, Megan. Megan torments the brothers every chance she gets.

To make matters worse, her parents think of her as an angel. This show was so popular that it spawned two movies, Go Hollywood and Merry Christmas Drake and Josh.

iCarly (2007-2012)

The series tells the story of Carly, who runs a web show, iCarly, with her friend, Sam. They run the show from Carly’s home in Seattle. Sam and Carly did not always have a plan to host one. It all began when Carly and Sam were improvising a comedy routine at a talent show audition. Freddie, a friend of the girls, records their routine and posts it online without their consent.

It turns out the audience likes the video and clamors for more content. The girls, therefore, agree to make the web show iCarly. The show was so big that it managed to attract celebrities who guest-starred in it. Some of the celebrities who guest-starred in the show include Michelle Obama, One Direction, Emma Stone, etc.

Victorious (2010-2013)

The show follows the story of Tori Vega. Tori’s sister, Trina, goes to Hollywood Arts (a school for the arts in Hollywood). She is unable to perform as a singer, so Tori fills in for her. Tori gets assistance from Andre, who is gifted in playing musical instruments. He warms up to her and encourages her to join the school. When she joins the school, she becomes friends with Cat, Robbie and Beck.

Not all people are happy with Tori joining the school. Jade perceives her as a rival since she is dating Beck. In nearly every episode, Tori mainly breaks into song. Occasionally, Cat and Jade will have their moment to shine by singing.

Henry Danger (2014-2020)

Henry Danger is the longest-running live-action scripted show ever produced for Nickelodeon. It focuses on Henry, a boy who lives in a small town called Swellview. The town is infamous for its villainous activities. Fortunately, a superhero named Captain Man is always there to fight off the villains. Henry soon lands an after-school job at an old pawn shop.

Later, he discovers part of the shop is used as a secret lair for Captain Man. Naturally, the superhero did not want anyone to find out about his whereabouts. He asks the boy to keep his hiding place a secret. To ensure he keeps his secret, he arranges for him to get superpowers like him. Soon, the hero and the boy form a crime-fighting duo.

Accusations against Dan Schneider

As time has gone by, Dan has been accused by thespians of sexism and sexual misconduct in the workplace. Furthermore, he has been accused of including sexual innuendo in his shows. For instance, in iCarly and Victorious, he includes scenes of people showing their feet. This led people to think he has a foot fetish. With the accusations leveled against him, Nickelodeon severed ties with him. According to Complex, the network allegedly paid him $7 million to leave his job.

Conclusion

One thing we cannot take away from Dan is his talent for producing funny shows. As enjoyable as his shows are, we hope some action will be taken if it turns out the accusations are true.
