How Drew Carey Achieved a Net Worth of $165 Million

Drew Carey

Drew Carey is an American comedian that was born in Ohio in 1958. He has enjoyed a very successful career and today he is worth approximately $165 million. This fortune was amassed due to his interests in several different areas of business and entertainment. Some of the different ways which he has earned money throughout his life are listed below.

Salary From The Drew Carey Show

He had starred in a number of comedy programs before he got his own show. The Drew Carey Show ran for nine years and he starred in the lead role as a fictionalized version of himself. The show was co-written by Bruce Helford who was also a writer on Rosanne. It was a very popular show in the early years but the viewers declined somewhat in the final two seasons which led to the show being cancelled.

Salary From Whose Line Is It Anyway?

He was the host of Whose Line Is It Anyway? for nine years after he convinced ABC to make the show. The show had aired in the UK for several years before the US version was made. The show is based around improv comedy where contestants take part in a number of games where they can put their comedy skills to the test. Drew Carey was the host of the show and it was his job to let the contestants know what sort of games they would be playing.

Salary From The Price Is Right

He replaced Bob Barker as the host of The Price Is Right in 2007 and this is the role that he currently holds. Barker had hosted the show since its inception in 1972 and was a tough act to follow but he has proved to be a popular choice. The show is one of the longest running in television history and it is not very likely that it will be cancelled anytime soon. While this show is still running and he is the host then he will have a regular source of income which could help to increase his net worth.

Royalties From His Autobiography

He released his autobiography in 1997 and he still receives royalties from this whenever someone buys a copy. Dirty Jokes and Beer: Stories of the Unrefined was on the best seller list for three months after it was released. Drew did not use the services of a ghost writer when writing this book and it is all his own work. In the book he talks about his upbringing and some of the challenges that he overcame to achieve the success he has today. Even though it was written over twenty years ago it still gives fans a valuable insight into his life and so it is still being purchased today.

Minority Ownership Of The Seattle Sounders

He is a minority shareholder of the MLS team Seattle Sounders. He does not have a lot to do with the day to day running of the team but he is entitled to share in any profits that are made. He has always had an interest in football and follows a number of European teams including Barcelona and Glasgow Rangers. The Sounders are one of the most well supported teams in the MLS and this provides revenues that earn Drew Carey money as an owner.

Photography Work

He also occasionally works as a photographer and is able to make money by selling these photographs. Sports photography is his particular niche and he sells his work under the name Brooks Parkenridge. He takes photographs at many games that the US national team play and these are often featured in the media coverage of the games.

Other Roles In TV And Advertisements

He has had a number of other small roles in TV shows and advertisements that have earned him some money throughout his career. He has had a number of guest roles throughout his career and in some of these he has played himself. Even though he is best known for his starring roles, he has had guest roles in more shows than you may have realized and the fees for these have soon started to mount up. He has also received payments throughout the career from the various advertisements that he has starred in.
