A Selection of Great New Travel Items for Road Warriors

As I routinely travel 100,000+ miles a year, I am always on the lookout for new and improved items to make my traveling life easier. Several of these products debuted at the International Travel Goods Show recently in Las Vegas. The TGA Show was a veritable Mecca of luggage, bags, gadgets, organizing widgets and must have gizmos for travelers. Here are a few new products which have since become some of my favorites:

Antler Titus DLX 8-wheel Expanding Carry-On Spinner

This ultra-light, expanding carry-on at only 5.3 pounds is my new travel BFF. It provides the best of both worlds: The strength and stability of hard-sided luggage with the “stuffability” of soft-sided luggage. Also, since it’s a hybrid, with the top and bottom hard-sided, the top provides a nice, flat spot to get some laptop work accomplished while waiting to board one’s flight. While working you can charge your devices with the convenient rear power pack pocket and integrated USB port. Interior zippered pockets keep items organized and exterior zippered pockets provide plenty of room for an I-Pad, travel umbrella, a book and other items that alleviated my chief complaint about traditional hard-sided luggage. MSRP $360, but several U.S. retailers have it now on sale, including amazon.

Nuu-Muu’s Perfect Travel Dress

Uber flattering A-line dresses, this dress can be rolled into a ball and packed in the corner of one’s luggage and will still arrive at one’s destination ready for anything. In a variety of attractive floral, solid and patterned prints, it can be paired with leggings and loafers, styled with sandals to the beach or coupled with high heels for a night out on the town. There is a hidden pocket with a fabric closure in the back. Best of all, it’s easily washable, dries quickly and is made in the U.S. $88.

VSSL Emergency First Aid/Personal Care Kit

While you never actually want to need it, it’s great to have just in case. Each VSSL unit is super compact, weighing just 14 ounces and is made from seamless, military grade, anodized aluminum. It comes with everything one needs: wipers, antibiotic ointment, cotton, three types of bandages, aspirin, ibuprofen, tweezers, tape, gauze and gloves. And if you happen to be way off the beaten track, or the electricity goes out, there is also an LED flood beam light, emergency whistle and a compass. VSSL has several items specific to the great outdoors available. $66.50

United by Blue’s Men’s Wheeler Coat

I got this water resistant coat made from recycled polyester and durable hemp for my husband and it has now become his favorite, lightweight coat. With a zipper, snaps, removable hood, chest pocket with headphone port and an extra, concealed zipper pocket, it’s a great addition for multiple uses. It’s machine washable and can be dressed up or down. And buying from United by Blue will make you feel socially responsible since it cleans a pound of trash from the world’s oceans and waterways for every item it sells. You buy, they clean; it's a win-win. $168.

Luglife’s Trolley Cosmetic Bag

This may be the ultimate cosmetic/toiletry travel bag. With a water repellant finish in a variety of fashionable colors, even TSA may smile. The Trolley has four external zippers and two internal ones providing space for everything one needs on the go, including stand-up bottles. Best of all, the inside is lined with heavy-duty, cleanable plastic, so even if you have a leaky bottle, you will arrive sitting pretty. $44.50

Modobag Rideable Luggage

For the ultimate road and airport warriors, Modobag provides the world's first rideable luggage. At just 20 pounds empty it can accommodate passengers up to 260 pounds. The Modobag goes eight miles per hour and can travel eight miles based on a 180 pound rider. It's fully charged in an hour and 80% charged in 20 minutes. The battery is carbon-free thus eliminating the issues associated with Lithium Ion batteries and its life expectancy is 4,000 full charge cycles. There are also dual USB ports to charge phones and other portable devices and apps to track location anywhere in the world. Modobag is made in the U.S. $1,495.

Royce Colombian Leather Sling Back Pack

This stylish, roomy, ultra soft, Vaquetta leather backpack easily makes a great companion from day trip to boardroom to evening. There are plenty of zippered compartments to stay organized with room for a tablet or I-Pad. For an extra $15, it can be personalized with one’s initials. $220.
