Robert Plant is a name that is known throughout the world. He's an English musician who is well-known for his role as the lead vocalist for the rock and roll band Led Zeppelin. He has made his fortune in the music industry and his net worth is now estimated to be $170 million. How did Robert plant become so rich? Was it from his time with Led Zeppelin or did he make other wise investments? We looked into his history and career to learn how he made his fortune and here is what we found out.

His early career

Robert Plant was born in West Bromwich, Staffordshire, England on August 20, 1948. In his younger years he experienced a definite influence from Blues musicians including Jerry Miller, Sleepy John Estes, Skip James, Bukka White and others. He became known for three obscure singles that he cut with CBS records. In his early years in the music industry he served as a vocalist for several different bands. One of the bands that he was involved with was called The Crawling King Snakes. It was when he was with the group that he met John Bonham. The two formed a bond and they moved on and played as band mates in a group called the Band of Joy. It was a combination blues band that also incorporated some of the psychedelic trends in music that was popular in the 1960s era.

The formation of a new group

A guitarist by the name of Jimmy page was looking for a lead singer for the band that he had just formed. He had offered the job to Terry Reid who didn't accept the offer, but pointed him in the direction of a training teacher residing in Birmingham. This happened to be where Robert Plant had a gig with the band Hobstweedle. He met Plant and it was at this time that he joined Page's group which at the time was called the New Yardbirds. In time they would change their name to Led Zeppelin. The group started performing in 1968 and within a year they released their debut album and it became a hit n the 1969 charts and also marked the birth of the heavy metal genre in rock and roll music. Plant took exception with the reference to Led Zeppelin as being heavy metal because much of the music that they performed was acoustic, creating a kind of hybrid situation. They actually fell into several categories within the umbrella of rock and roll.

His later career

Plant spent decades singing with the group. He was not only their lead vocalist, he was also the lyricist responsible for writing dozens of songs that the band performed and recorded and many of them rose to the top of the charts. After enjoying a successful career with the band, Robert Plant also embarked on a solo career. He performed duets with a variety of different musicians from multiple genres in the music industry. He was well known for his signature high pitched singing and his wide vocal range made his one of the greatest singers in rock and roll history.

The legacy of Robert Plant

He also served as an influence on other young singers in the genre who rose to great heights of fame including Chris Cornell Freddie Mercury and Axl Rose. Robert Plant was named by Hit Parader, a heavy metal magazine as the "Greatest Metal Vocalist of All Time." In addition to this, Planet Rock released the results of a poll that they conducted n 2009 and the artist voted as The Greatest Voice in Rock. He was also ranked as number 15 by the editors of Rolling Stone magazine on their 100 Greatest Singers of All Time in 2008. The magazine also named him as number one on their listing of the best singers of all time in their 2011 release. Plant has served as songwriter, musician and singer and his career has spanned an incredible 40 years. He has amassed an incredible net worth of $170 million throughout his career in the rock music industry, some of which was earned when he was with Led Zeppelin and some from his solo career.
