What is the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing? You might have guessed that it's an automobile simply because it's from Cadillac. On the other hand, maybe you've been following the development of this particular 2022 model for some time now. Regardless, you should know that this is a special vehicle, one that doesn't come around very often. If you want to know more about it, consider looking through the following paragraphs. You’re likely to end up wanting one for yourself.
Upon first glance, you might have trouble telling whether this is supposed to be a luxury car or sports car. That's largely because it's actually both. In fact, it's a car that sits low to the ground and has a wider stance than most, meaning that it handles corners a lot better than much of the competition. It's a good thing, too, because the 6.2 L V8 engine is capable of generating an astonishing 668 horsepower. That's almost enough to make you feel the wind in your hair, even when you're driving a hardtop with all the windows rolled up. The car sells for just under $84,000. Of course, that's for the most basic model that you can purchase. If you want some additional trim options, you can expect to pay a few thousand more. Perhaps the only thing about this particular car’s specifications that even remotely makes you stop and think is its fuel economy.
That's because it isn't great. If you're on the highway, you can expect to get about 22 miles to the gallon, but that decreases significantly for city driving where you can only expect to get about 13 miles per gallon. After all, that massive engine can't produce more than 600 horsepower if you're not willing to give it what it needs. It only makes sense that an engine that big would be thirsty, and this one definitely is. That said, there is an inevitable trade-off between fuel economy and performance. That's just the way it goes. If you really want a car that has epic performance, you’re probably not going to get great fuel mileage. Those who prefer to have a car that can go hundreds of miles on $15 worth of gas probably aren't going to be breaking any speed records, either. It all depends on what's important to you. Therefore, the fuel mileage may not be such a big deal if you're already in the market for a car like this. If you're undecided, keep reading. You might be pleasantly surprised by the time you're finished.
The Car With a Perfect Score
Car and Driver magazine recently gave this car a 10 out of 10, saying it is the best version of the CT5-V that ever existed. It's also worth noting that the 2022 model year will likely be the last production year for this particular automobile. There's no doubt about it, Cadillac has made a lot of changes to this particular version in order to give the car the proper send-off it deserves. In fact, they even went as far as marrying that V8 engine to a manual transmission, putting the driver squarely in charge and allowing the car to have more power and more torque than most people could even fathom. It's definitely made the most of the more than 600 horsepower available. It's also one of the few places where you can still find a high-performance car with this much power that also offers a manual transmission. It's just not something that you see a lot of anymore, as almost all automakers have abandoned the manual transmission in lieu of the more popular automatic transmission. This is especially true when it comes to luxury cars, as manual transmissions are often thought of as the most basic option you can get. As a result, most luxury automakers don't want to go anywhere near a car with a manual transmission for fear of losing sales. Cadillac threw all of those fears off to the side and decided to do what was right when it came to creating a luxury car that had performance like nothing else on the road. It simply wouldn't have been possible to accomplish what they've done with an automatic transmission, something they were certain of from the start.
So Many Options
Of course, Cadillac also understands that not everyone wants to drive a car with a manual transmission. This is especially true when you're talking about a luxury automobile. As such, they also provide an option that has an automatic transmission. However, as opposed to using the standard six-speed automatic transmission, they decided to go with a larger, more powerful 10-speed version as a means of offsetting the natural torque that would be lost from replacing the manual transmission. This gives drivers an opportunity to enjoy a performance that is still fairly close to the version with the manual transmission, all while having the epitome of luxury at their fingertips with an automatic.
Cadillac has even taken things one step further, allowing prospective buyers to build a car to their liking through Cadillac’s website. Not only do you have an opportunity to pick the type of transmission that your future car will have, but you also are afforded a number of color and trim options. By the time it's all said and done, you can have a car that is essentially custom-built to your specifications, with everything from exterior color, interior trim and powertrain options designed to suit exactly what you want in a new car. It's already generated a great deal of interest in potential buyers and there's no reason to think that this interest will be slowing down anytime soon. In fact, Cadillac is counting on it. They're hoping to build somewhere between 3,000 and 4,000 Blackwings for the 2022 model year. Giving people an opportunity to build their own cars online is one way of increasing sales, but it's also a great way to gauge consumer interest. You might say that when it comes to this car, Cadillac really has thought of everything.
