The 10 Most Fuel Efficient Cars of 2018

When you think about owning a car, there are a lot of things to be considered. It isn’t just the cost of the car itself you have to worry about. You also have to pay for insurance, maintenance and fuel. One of the biggest variable costs you’re likely to encounter involves the amount you have to spend on gas. The big SUV or the crew-cab truck might seem nice at first glance but it may not be as much fun after you have to fill it up a few times. If you’re really looking for something that won’t cost you an arm and a leg when it comes to getting from place to place, you need an automobile that’s fuel efficient. If you’re interested in finding out more information about the 10 most fuel efficient vehicles of 2018, all you need to do is keep reading.

1. Mitsubishi Mirage

This car gets 37 miles per gallon in town and 43 mpg on the open road. That easily makes it one of the most affordable cars in production. It’s also priced to sell at just over $14,000. The car is underpowered and cramped, but if fuel economy is the think that you’re really interested in, you might not care as much about those things.

2. Honda Fit

If you’re in the city, you can count on about 33 mpg, which isn’t bad. On the highway, you can get as much as 40 mpg, which puts this car right up there with some of the most fuel efficient cars on the road. It’s a relatively small car so you won’t have a lot of extra space, but that may not be a problem for you if you plan on using the car mostly for short trips.

3. Honda Civic

The great thing about this car is that it’s been completely redesigned. As a result, it’s sportier, roomier and it has more power. It’s a distinct improvement on a car that was already pretty decent. The current version allows you to enjoy driving longer distances with gas mileage in the 42 mpg range. Even in town you can still get approximately 32 mpg. That makes this car one of the most popular choices because it’s economical without being unnecessarily cramped.

4. Hyundai Elantra

This is a car that has undergone a number of transformations over the years. As a result, it has steadily gotten better, more reliable, and even more fun to drive. In short, it’s an economy car that doesn’t look or drive like one. Enjoy 32 mpg in the city and 40 mpg when you’re driving on the highway.

5. Toyota Yaris

This is one of the smaller cars in the group. It’s a four-door compact sedan, but it is extremely small. Most people that buy the car are either looking for something as a first-time car buyer or they are trying to downsize so they don’t have to spend as much on travel costs. You can get up to 40 mpg on the open road, as well as 32 mpg in town, which is roughly the same thing you get with the larger Hyundai Elantra.

6. Nissan Versa

If you’re looking for a car that isn’t going to cost you a whole lot of money, this is a good option. In fact, it costs less than $13,000 to purchase it and you can drive it for about 39 miles on the highway with a single gallon of gas. If you’re driving in stop-and-go traffic, it drops down to 31 mpg, but that’s still nothing to sneeze at.

7. Ford Focus

The Focus started out as a car that provided only the basics. Over the years, it graduated somewhat and the current version is updated to reflect the latest technology. While it’s still a fairly basic automobile, it isn’t necessarily a bare-bones model. It also gets really good fuel mileage, providing 30 mpg in town and as much as 40 mpg on the highway.

8. Toyota Corolla

This is one of the most popular economy cars in production. The cars aren’t fancy but they’re nice. More importantly, they’re reliable. They don’t cost a lot of money to operate and they get excellent fuel mileage- 40 mpg for highway driving and 30 mpg for shorter trips.

9. Toyota Camry

This is the slightly larger and more luxurious cousin of the Corolla. If you want a car that is capable of providing solid performance for just a little more money, this is something you might want to consider. It costs about $5,000 more than the Corolla, but its gas mileage is almost identical- 41 on the highway and 29 in town.

10. Chevrolet Spark

This is another economical car in every manner possible. It’s tiny, so it works best if you don’t plan on driving long distances. If that’s not a problem for you, you might like the gas mileage you can get with this car. On the open road it gets 38 mpg and in town it manages about 30 mpg.
