We conducted research to find out how much it costs to enroll in medical programs and we were amazed at how much aspiring new doctors will have to pay just to go through the educational programs. While on average, the cost of tuition for the 2017-2018 school year was $55,000 per year for the tuition alone, we noticed that there are five schools in particular that charge much higher tuition fees. Here are the five most expensive medical schools in the United States today.

5. Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine – $63,000

This highly rated medical school is located in Chicago, Illinois. The cost per year for enrollment is $63,000 in tuition. If you’re considering becoming a student at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine then you’ll also need to prepare for additional fees and expenses on top of this, because this is only the cost of tuition. As with any University or college, there are fees on top of the tuition, then you’ll also need to spend more on textbooks, special lab fees and any other supplies and equipment that are required for each separate class that you take.

4. Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College – $63,551

Everyone is familiar with the prestigious Dartmouth College, This Ivy league institution charges $63,551 per year for students enrolled in their physician medical program. While some may argue that there are far less medical schools to attend, it’s difficult for anyone who has been accepted to this institution to pass up the opportunity. There’s something very special about achieving an Ivy League education. It’s recommended as one of the top medical schools in all of America, plus there’s a certain prestige that goes with becoming a Dartmouth alum. The school is located in Hanover, New Hampshire.

3. Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine – $63,257

Case beat out Dartmouth by just a few dollars per year to achieve the status of being the third most expensive medical school in the U.S. The tuition fees are $63,257 per year. Graduating from this school opens doors because of the fact that it’s one of the most highly rated in the nation and they’re not in the habit of graduating slouches or poor quality medical personnel. They’re in the business of turning out quality professionals so if you can afford the cost of tuition plus books and all the other supplies you’ll need, it’s an excellent choice for those who are admitted.

2. Keck School of Medicine at USC – $64,132

Keck School of Medicine at USC is the second most expensive medical school to attend in America. Medical students pay tuition fees of $64,132 per year at last glance. The cost of tuition is high, but it offers an excellent program for aspiring physicians. It’s among the best medical schools in the state of California. Securing admission to Keck is a feat in itself because they won’t accept just anyone who thinks they may want to be a physician. There are a few hoops to jump through to gain admission to this Los Angeles based school.

1. Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons – $66,257

The most expensive medical school in the United States is Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. The college is based in New York City and it has all the others beat with an annual tuition fee of $66,257. Add the cost of books and other supplies and you’re going to be paying a pretty penny to get through the program. This Ivy League school, according to most is well worth the expense. Although many students that enroll in Columbia University’s medical program do not have to worry about money to pay tuition, there are some who rely on financial aid assistance and scholarships to help defray the cost of tuition, fees, books, and other expenses.

Final thoughts

The five private medical schools in our list of the most expensive are also among the most highly ranked. They offer future physicians and medical personnel a high-quality education. Graduating from a well-known and established medical school may be worth the extra expense in the long run. There are long term benefits associated with the endorsement, the connections made while there are the quality of the educational experience.
