Tom Holland’s Early Life

Born in Kingston-upon-Thames in London on June 1, 1996, Tom Holland was the oldest of four boys. His mother, Nicola, is a photographer, while his father, Dominic, is an author and comedian. His younger brothers are Paddy and twins Harry and Sam. Holland began dance lessons when he was a child, and he was bullied by others because of his choice of hobby.

He trained at the Nifty Feet Dance School and was spotted by choreographer Lynne Paige who believed he had huge potential. He trained for two years and auditioned eight times before he finally landed a role in ‘Billy Elliot the Musical’, playing Billy’s best friend. He made his West End debut in 2008. While training for the musical, he also took up gymnastics training.

Television Work and Early Films

After working in theater for several years, Holland began to land small television and film roles. Between 2010 and 2015, he had small roles in ‘The Secret World of Arrietty’, ‘Moments’, and ‘How I Live Now’. According to IMDb, he also provided the voice of Eddie in ‘Locke’ in 2013. In 2015, he appeared in four episodes of ‘Wolf Hall’ on BBC 2 playing the role of Gregory Cromwell.

This led to larger roles in films. Between 2016 and 2017, he has credits in films including ‘Edge of Winter’, ‘The Lost City of Z’, ’A Monster Calls’. ‘The Pilgrimage’ and ‘The Current War’. By now, Holland was really making a name for himself in the entertainment industry.

2015 is possibly the most significant year in Tom Holland’s career so far as it was in this year that it was announced that he would play the role of a teenage Peter Parker/ Spider-Man. Holland later commented that it was at this point that his life was flipped upside down. His first appearance in this role was in the 2016 film ‘Captain America: Civil War’. This became the highest-grossing film of 2016 when it took $1.1 billion at the worldwide box office. It also received fantastic reviews from the critics.

‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ was released in July the following year and Holland was praised for his performance. Next, he appeared in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’, which was released in April 2019, followed by ‘Avengers: Endgame’ a year later. His fifth film in the role of Peter Parker/ Spider-Man was the 2019 film ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’.

It is reported that Holland has a six-movie deal with Marvel Cinematic Universe, so there it is expected that there is another film yet to come with him in this role. Holland has said he has his father to thank for not allowing him to let his Spider-Man fame go to his head.

Upcoming Work

Although the role of Spider-Man has dominated Holland’s life in recent years, he has also been working on several other projects and has some exciting things in the pipeline. Back in 2016, information was leaked that Holland had been cast in a film called ‘The Modern Ocean’, which is directed by Shane Carruth. During the production of this fil, they encountered several problems which have delayed the project. However, it is expected that the filming of this movie will resume in early 2020.

Holland has also been cast in a film called ‘Chaos Walking’, which is an adaptation to the best-selling YA series by Patrick Ness. It has been revealed that he will play the role of Todd Hewitt in this film alongside actress Daisy Ridley. The movie is directed by Doug Liman and it is set for release in 2020. Although this film has not yet been released, it has been reported that a sequel is already underway.

Another film that is scheduled for release in 202 is ‘The Devil of All Time’, which is a post-World War II horror film. This film is directed by Antonio Campos. Holland also has some upcoming voice roles. He will provide a voice for both ‘The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle’ and for the Pixar animated film ‘Onward’.

Holland also has several other exciting film projects in the pipeline, which just shows how in-demand this talented actor has become in recent years. He is starring alongside Will Smith in the 2019 film ‘Spies in Disguise’.
