10 Benefits of Having a Union Plus Credit Card

The nonprofit organization Union Plus has been providing benefits for current and previous labor union members since 1986. One of these benefits is being eligible for the Union Plus credit card, which is provided by Capital One. The Union Plus program has helped many people recover from negative financial situations, and the credit card is one the ways that these members have done so. If you’re a labor union member looking for a credit card that’ll be the perfect fit, there’s nothing else out there that will provide you the benefits that the Union Plus credit card would. Here are 10 benefits of having a Union Plus credit card.

1. Cash back

Earning cash back from purchases is always a plus, and this credit card will let you earn 1.5% cash back on all your purchases. There’s also no limit as to how much cash back you could earn; so the more you swipe, the more cash back you’ll have.

2. No annual fee

This is especially helpful for labor union members who are trying to get back on their feet. Having fees for anything is truly a hassle, and the Union Plus credit card is one less thing to worry about. The credit card has absolutely no annual fees, so you can be rest assured that as long as you pay your credit card on time, you don’t have to worry about any other fees apart from the interest charges.

3. Intro APR

Different credit cards offer different APRs, and not all offer an intro APR. The Union Plus credit card happens to offer a 0% purchase and transfer intro APR for all new cardholders. What this would mean for you is that for the first 12 months, you won’t have to worry about any interest fees.

4. Balance transfer

This credit card allows you to transfer balances from other credit cards. If you’re trying to consolidate some of your credit card debt, this could be one way to do it. Union Plus also offers a competitive balance transfer fee rate at only 3%. That’s one of the lowest rates you could see out there.

5. No overlimit fee

One of the best things about the Union Plus credit card is the fact that it doesn’t have a maximum overlimit fee. Sure you’ll have a credit limit, and you definitely have to stay within those limits. But there are times when you might accidentally go beyond your credit limit without knowing. You won’t get charged a fee for that. Just make sure that you cover your overlimit amount plus the minimum on your next due date, and you should be fine.

6. Cash advance

Another great benefit to having the Union Plus credit card is having the capability of taking cash out. Not all credit cards out there allow you to do that, but Union Plus does. You’ll have to pay a 4% cash advance fee or at least a minimum of $10—whichever one is greater.

7. No foreign transaction fee

You could definitely take this credit card abroad and not have to worry about swiping because it has absolutely zero foreign transaction fees. Foreign transactions fees are a great burden for many people that travel. The Union Plus credit card is the perfect card to use internationally because you’ll never have to worry about any extra and hidden fees while you’re swiping at another country.

8. Rebates and discounts

Union Plus has partnered with many companies to provide rebate benefits for their members and particularly for their cardholders. While using the Union Plus credit card, you could get various rebates and discounts on major companies out there such as AT&T, Teleflora, and the Union Plus Motor Club and Car Rentals.

9. Grants

There are very few—if any at all—credit cards out there that offer hardship assistance for its members. Union Plus offers this kind of assistance for labor union members through grants, and if you’ve been a cardholder for at least 3 months, you could qualify. Some of the grants that you could get include Job Loss Grants, Strike Grants, Disability Grants, and Hospital Grants.

10. Other protection

The Union Plus credit card also offers its cardholders other type of benefits through protection. One of these is a collision damage waiver when you rent a car using the credit card. You could also utilize the credit card’s identity theft protection services and a price protection service among a few others.
