Yamini Rangan is becoming the new CEO of HubSpot. She is no stranger to the business world. In fact, she is considered by many to be the consummate professional. That said, she has largely flown under the radar for a number of years, preferring instead to keep her head down and get the job done as opposed to seeking out fanfare. As a direct result, a lot of people don't really know all that much about her. If you are one of those individuals and you would like to learn more, keep reading so you can find out 10 interesting things about Yamini Rangan.
1. She isn’t exactly new to HubSpot
She might be the new CEO of HubSpot, but it isn't like she's new to the company. In fact, she held the spot of Chief Customer Operations Officer before she was offered the job of CEO. Clearly, she has been impressing people in her duties for some time, something that is evidenced by the fact that she was selected from a number of other candidates to take over the top spot as the current CEO made the decision to step down.
2. She brings with her a wealth of experience
She hasn't been at HubSpot all that long, but she has a wealth of experience working with other companies. In fact, she did quite a long stint at Dropbox and has worked at countless numbers of other companies that incorporate both big business and the use of technology. As such, she knows how to make these types of businesses work and she has demonstrated that fact time and time again.
3. She essentially ran the company for a time
While she was at HubSpot, she actually served double-duty for some time. While working directly with customer relations, she was also selected to serve all of the same duties that a CEO would undertake when the company's current CEO was injured in a snowmobile accident. During his recovery, she essentially ran the company on her own. Clearly, those in charge were impressed with how she handled things.
4. She is a standout in her family
She is quick to point out that she is virtually the only person in the technology-related field in her entire family, with the rest of her family being mostly involved in the medical field. Someone once asked her why she chose to go into technology as opposed to going into medicine. She explained that when everything is stripped down, it's still about the same things- helping people solve problems and helping people be happy. Whether that is accomplished by solving someone's technological issues during their business day or helping them get well, the end result is the same.
5. She forces herself to allow her work to make her grow as a person
One of the things that she has commented on several times is the fact that she is very much an introvert. As such, she often finds it rather challenging to interact with people and conduct meetings, something that forces her to put herself out there. She also says that is one of the main reasons that she loves her job so much. It essentially forces her to get outside of her comfort zone and do things that allow her to grow, both as a business professional and as a human being.
6. She likes the idea of sending a positive message to young women
When asked about her heroes, she mentioned important women throughout history and even talked about superheroes like Wonder Woman. She believes that it's important to send positive messages two young women, especially if those messages are centered around helping them believe that they can accomplish anything they want. She doesn't buy into the idea of a man's world and a woman's world, but instead believes that the best person for the job should actually hold that title.
7. At one time, she thought she wanted to be an architect
She was always certain that she never wanted to go into the medical field, but she did strongly consider the possibility of becoming an architect at one point in her life. She still says that if the internet did not allow her to do what she does with business, she would possess a strong interest in going into that field, even today.
8. She’s always had a strong desire to set herself apart from those around her
One of the reasons that she didn't want to go into medicine was because almost her entire family was doing it. She has always displayed a strong desire to set herself apart from the people around her. As such, she was always quite keen on the idea of doing something completely different.
9. She was Hubspot’s highest paid employee even before the move to CEO
In fact, she was paid more than anyone else at the company. While her exact salary has not been widely publicized, it is known that she was paid more than the company's CEO or anyone else there. That fact alone should speak volumes about how much individuals at HubSpot value her input in her ability as a business professional. When all of this is considered, it's no wonder that she was eventually offered the position of CEO. She may not have held the position initially, but she has clearly been setting herself apart from the competition all along.
10. She has only been at HubSpot for a little more than a year
Another thing that makes it so surprising that she was paid so much even before she was offered the position of CEO, is the fact that during that time she had only worked at HubSpot for about a year. That is definitely saying something; it serves as a testament to her work ethic and her professional ability.
