A Closer Look at The 2022 Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello

2022 Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello

The Mandello Del Lario company commemorated Moto Guzzi's 100th anniversary in 2021 with particularly unique motorcycles and a touring museum exhibit. Guzzi moved its emphasis from the rear-view mirror to the road ahead by September 2021, showcasing a first look at the new 2022 Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello. The V100 Mandello features the world's first adaptive aerodynamics technology for a commercial motorbike, as well as the first Moto Guzzi with a liquid-cooled engine, six-axis IMU, a quick shifter, and Öhlins semi-active suspension for the higher model. The new sport-touring model is powered by a 1,042cc transverse V-Twin engine. The liquid-cooled, DOHC valve train engine generates 115 hp and 77.4 lb-ft of torque and has a unique compact block design. That being said, let's take a deeper look at the all-new 2022 Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello sport-tourer.

2022 Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello Quick Facts

The new 2022 Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello has some shape-shifting features thanks to wind deflectors fitted on the fuel tank's sidewalls. Based on the speed and riding style, these alter their elevation. The design reduces air pressure on the rider by a reported 22%, figures generally reserved for much bigger touring motorbikes with larger fairings while retaining the bike's sporty qualities. The new sport-tourer model also has a single-sided alloy swingarm, but it is significantly lower than on previous models, eliminating any torque resistance. Here are some features of the new sport-tourer motorcycle.

1. Liquid-cooled DOHC 90-degree V-twin Engine

Moto Guzzi has employed an air-cooled, transverse V-twin engine in all of its motorbikes for years, from the Moto Guzzi V7 through the Moto Guzzi V85 TT. The 2022 Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello, however, shakes things up. The V100 Mandello sport-touring bike engine is now liquid-cooled and features DOHC four-valve cylinder heads, ride-by-wire technology, and a new vertical-flow arrangement with the intake on above the heads and the exhaust below. According to Devitt, this configuration allows for improved camshaft placement on the DOHC architecture. The 1,042cc transverse V-Twin engine produces 115bhp and 105 Nm (77.4 lb-ft) of torque, with 90% of that power available at 3500 rpm, which is acceptable if not surprising figures for a sport-touring machine. It also includes a wet sump design lubrication system and a hydraulically operated wet clutch.

2. The Single-sided Aluminum Swingarm

The shaft drive makes use of a long aluminum single-sided swingarm, which is now placed to the left. The shaft drive exit placement eliminates any suspension reaction caused by torque transfer, eliminating the requirement for swingarm linkage. This provides a seamless ride throughout accelerating and releasing, similar to that provided by a chain drive, however with the shaft's normal benefits of higher cleaning and minimal maintenance. The sporting events character of the 2022 Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello is due to the attributes of a compact and controllable chassis, which provides enthusiasm through turns and quick passages but also real stability over longer journeys with that exceptional front wheel feeling associated with fun and riding comfort. All of this is due to the steel tube frame with a 58.5-inch (1486-mm) wheelbase, which is the result of a first-rate Moto Guzzi manufacturing tradition and is excellent for showing the bike's maneuverability.

3. Riding & Power Modes

A 6-axis IMU, ride-by-wire, and a Marelli 11MP ECU are standard on the 2022 Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello. The electronics system is by far the most modern ever fitted to a Moto Guzzi, obviously capitalizing on Aprilia's significant development in this area. This translates to a 6-axis gyroscope platform regulating a variety of functions in the V100 Mandello, such as cornering-aware ABS, four levels of traction control, three engine-braking levels, cruise control, and four riding modes (Travel, Sport, Rain, and Road) with three engine mappings each. The electronics also offer fast-shifting up and down, heated grips, a 5-inch TFT display screen, complete LED lighting with an adjustable headlight, and Bluetooth connectivity, enabling smartphone access to the multimedia.

4. The Adaptive Aerodynamics

The riding modes control a one-of-a-kind feature called adaptive aerodynamics. Moto Guzzi intends the 2022 Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello to be a sport-tourer. The adaptive aerodynamic system moves deflectors on the side of the 4.6-gallon fuel tank based on speed and riding mode. In the fully-deployed mode, the deflectors give 22% greater windshield and, coupled with the digital windscreen, contribute to the cockpit's comfort far beyond the lavishly comfy seat and elevated handlebars.

5. 2022 Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello: Trim Levels

The 2022 Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello comes in two trim levels. The upscale version comes standard with Öhlins semi-active suspension, as well as a quick shifter, heated grips, and the Moto Guzzi MIA multimedia platform, which allows a smartphone to be linked to the motorbike dashboard via Bluetooth to enhance its features. Moto Guzzi MIA incorporates a multimedia system for managing the phone calls, voice assistant, and music using the simple handlebar controls, as well as a GPS capability that allows the user to display directions immediately on the dashboard once you've set a destination on your phone.

2022 Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello Specs

While we do know that there will be two trims for the 2022 Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello, we don't know all of the latter's specifications. Moto Guzzi, however, has confirmed that the upscale version of its new sport-tourer motorbike rides on semi-active Öhlins semi-active suspension, as previously mentioned. Other well-known specifications are:

  • Engine: 1042cc liquid-cooled DOHC 90-degree V-twin
  • Horsepower: 115 hp (horsepower)
  • Torque: 77 lb-ft (105 Nm)

Transmission: Six-speed manual

The Bottom Line

This new sport-tourer motorbike appears to change the heritage brand of Moto Guzzi, with a significantly sophisticated design all around. As previously stated, the 2022 Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello is much easier to handle, more comfortable, and has deflectors that provide a 22% larger windshield. The V100 Mandello, with its small wheelbase and large swingarm, promises modern handling and a blend of agility and long-distance luxury. If you mainly ride on the road, the V100 Mandello is a great choice. Whether it's on the street or the track, it will not disappoint you, as it has four selectable ride modes.
