It’s the first EV in car form that the United States will see since it introduced the EV version of the RAV 3. It took a few moments to realize that there is no other name associated with the car. It’s a series of letters and numbers that isn’t particularly catchy or memorable, It doesn’t roll off the tongue easily, but the initial reports describing the new electric car make it worth a second look.

The 2023 Toyota bZ4X is described as an electric car with a different aesthetic than many of us are used to seeing. It’s slightly larger than the RAV 4 with an aggressive-looking front end and the appearance of a compact SUV. The BZ is short for the term Beyond Zero. The term describes its contributions to saving the planet by producing zero emissions. It’s Toyota’s latest effort to reduce the carbon footprint to null for a more positive impact on the environment. It’s a front-wheel-drive vehicle that will also come in an all-wheel-drive option. It’s a battery-electric car designed to give Tesla a run for its money in the 2023 model year. Toyota’s new compact SUV will feature an eye-catching design with a solar aesthetic to the RAV 4 SUV with full LED lighting and LED daylights, brushed aluminum accented 20-inch wheels on the Limited trim, and a slightly larger size compared to the RAV 4. Car and Driver confirms that it’s a little lower and longer. It will feature a trapezoidal non-grille, and accents of black with an optional black roof for added eye appeal. On the interior, the BZ4X is designed for driver and passenger comfort with spaciousness and plenty of legroom. The seating material is soft-tex, for seating comfort during long rides. The interior layout is practical to maximize the space and put everything within easy reach. It will come with a large infotainment screen, wireless charging, and a digital gauge cluster that is easy to read at a glance.

Performance

The new Toyota will be equipped with a 64 kWh battery with a range of as high as 250 miles on a single charge in the front-wheel version. The AWD option will offer more power thanks to its dual-motor system but the use of power will reduce the car’s range on a single charge. Toyota has yet to release all the testing results. The electric engine claims 201 horsepower in the FWD with 215 hp in the AWD model with acceleration from a standstill to 62 mph in 7.7 seconds. Toyota will equip the system with a fast-charging feature that complements its integrated solar panels that store enough energy for up to 1K miles a year. It’s a new system, and Toyota has not chosen to divulge more information about its specs this time.

Safety features in the bZ4X

Toyota shared that the bZ4X will come equipped with standard safety features similar to its other models. Some of them include the automated high beam for enhancing night vision. A camera detects light rays produced by oncoming vehicles and monitors street light brightness to switch from high to low beams through an automated system. It will also come with cyclist detection and pedestrian detection to avert collisions with pedestrians and cyclists. The front and back cameras with a radar system help in the detection process. When a cyclist or pedestrian is detected, the system issues audio and visual alerts and warnings. Another safety feature Toyota provides is lane-keeping assistance to stay within designated traffic lanes. Alerts warn drivers of slight deviations. It works with the radar cruise control system to maintain correct lane positioning.

Other facts about the 2023 Toyota bZ4X

We don’t know much about the new Toyota EV, but it’s estimated that it will become available sometime in late 2022, at least for a preview. The price range is likely to be between $37,000 starting and $42,000. CNet reports that the new SUV will have the smoothness of the typical Toyota ride with a practical interior. on the downside, it’s going to be a slow charging model with less than premium interior materials. The exterior design is a bit on the quirky side. We’ve heard rumors that the interior has a funky layout, but it’s practical. It will also have a large steering wheel and long dashboard covered with textured fabric, faux leather seats, and plenty of hard plastics throughout the vehicle. On the plus side, you’ll find deep door pockets for storing personal items with a huge undertray on the console. In the back, the headroom is ample with plenty of legroom. The new EV will also offer 27.7 cubic feet of storage space.

Final thoughts

Toyota offered a few juicy tidbits along with photos of the upcoming 2023 Toyota bZ4X, but it’s barely enough to know what to expect. It’s Toyota’s answer to the necessity of entering the EV market. The initial press reports let us know that it’s going to be an entry-level SUV, but it will offer the benefits of AWD power and a nice drinking range of up to 250 miles on a single charge. It will present as a unique model with interesting aesthetics that will set it apart from the rest. The bZ4X will be a nice option for small families, thanks to its generous cargo space and ample room for passengers in the back seats. We’ll have to wait to find out more details about its specifications, release date, and confirmation of the price.
