It’s an innovative new electric boat motor company that specializes in zero-emissions engines that are all-electric and cleaner for the environment. Sorkin is a fascinating personality with an impressive career in engineering and the clean energy movement. We wanted to know more about him so we checked into his personal and professional history. 1. Ben Sorkin is a Princeton Graduate

His LinkedIn Profile page confirms that Ben Sorkin attended the prestigious Ivy League Princeton University. It’s difficult to gain acceptance for admission into this university because it is among the top-ranked schools in the nation. His acceptance into the school is evidence that Ben Sorkin was among the top students in the country, with his potential for success in his academics.

2. Ben can juggle multiple tasks simultaneously

Engaging in studies at Princeton required dedication and commitment to his studies, but Ben performed well with time to spare. While some other students may struggle to earn the required GPA to remain in their respective programs, Ben did so while enjoying other activities he enjoyed. He joined the Princeton Racing Electric Formula-Hybrid Team. He was also a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the Princeton Club Hockey, and the Antique and Classic Boat Society.

3. Ben Sorkin is a mechanical and Aerospace engineer

Ben studied in the mechanical and aerospace engineering program at Princeton University. He attended classes from 2013 through 2017, when he earned his bachelor’s degree in the discipline. He is a mechanical and aerospace engineer, in addition to being the CEO and co-founder of Flux Marine. His background in engineering gave him the skills and knowledge to undertake the project of developing a new type of all-electric engine for boats.

4. Ben Sorkin is a Naturalist

We also learned that he spent a summer volunteering in Bolton Landing, New York as a Naturalist. Volunteering and promoting environmentalism are things he loves to do. He continues to volunteer at Up Yonda Farms NYS Environmental Education Center. He’s been doing it ever since 2003. As a volunteer, he helps develop public and school programs and teaches. He creates advertisements and brochures, maintains the museum, trails, and exhibits, he cares for wildlife. He also guides educational and Geocaching tours.

5. He intervened at Vengo Labs

Ben Sorkin spent 4 months interning as an engineer for Vengo Labs in New York City. He served from June 2013 through September 2013. The internship was part of his educational program. He gained hands-on experience handling communications and relationships with potential business partners and suppliers. He also designed subsystem parts and assemblies on CATIA and troubleshooter and helped create innovative solutions for the vending machine company.

6. Ben interned at Tesla Motors

The second internship for Ben Sorkin was at Tesla Motors. In June 2016, he joined the team to help in the powertrain service and remanufacturing departments. Ben spent four months at the Fremont, California facility helping with the remanufacturing of high voltage battery systems. Ben designed testing tools for the remanufacturing line. He also helped streamline the speed of the line processes while improving ergonomics. Ben Sorkin gained valuable experience creating and defining battery assessment processes. He helped design prototypes for alternative products, achieving excellence in test methods. We can see how this experience helped shape his notions of how to launch the R&D for Flux Marine.

7. He was the director of the student lab at Princeton’s Student Lab for Electric Marine Propulsion Systems Research and Development

Ben served on the Electric Marine Propulsion Systems Research and Development Project at Princeton University from May 2015 through January 2018. He spent nearly three years searching for automotive electric powertrain technology. He saw the need for developing innovations for the marine industry, rolled up his sleeves, and went to work. He and his partners in the project designed an electric outboard motor design that was commercially viable. They maintained a focus on achieving high performance with zero-emission.

8. His first job after college was in electrical engineering

Ben accepted a job with Navatek LLC in Narragansett, Rhode Island, where he worked full time from January 2019 through March 2020 as the director of electric propulsion. In 2019, he worked at the Honolulu, Hawaii locations as a mechanical engineer.

9. Ben has a solid philosophy for success

Medium staff interviewed Ben Sorkin and asked him about his philosophy for success. Ben said that it comes from confidence in the decisions he makes. He continued and threw in a caveat. Sorkin is secure about his decisions, but it doesn’t stop him from changing his mind and switching to a different approach. He shared that you must have the confidence to build a successful company. You must have the ability to make wise decisions and gather the necessary information to make educated decisions.

10. Ben Sorkin is following his passion

Ben Sorkin is a successful man because he is doing what he loves. He is a naturalist with a passion for the waters. He shared that much of his youth featured summers on Lake George in upstate New York. He’s had a lifelong passion for boating. His love for working on engines is equal. That’s what inspired him to pursue a degree in mechanical and aerospace engineering. He was in his element when interning at Tesla. Today, he is doing something that makes a difference in the world around him. Flux Marine is working on a marine engine that will help to clean up the waters without sacrificing performance for recreational boaters.
