How David Beckham Achieved a Net Worth of $450 Million

David Beckham is one of the greatest professional footballers of all time. His skills on the field inspired many during his career. During the height of his career, Beckham married Victoria Adams, a former singer with the 1990’s girl band “Spice Girls”. Victoria became a fashion designer inspiring her husband to build his own brand. The couple have three sons and a daughter. Their oldest son, Brooklyn, is a model. The family has homes in London, Los Angeles and Miami. Here’s how David Beckham achieved a net worth of $450 million.

He came from a humble background

David Beckham was born in London on May 2, 1975. His father David is a kitchen fitter and his mother Sandra is a hairdresser. David has two sisters, Lynne and Joanne. David lived a modest life with his family and fell in love with football at as a young boy. He always wanted to be a professional footballer, and his parents encouraged his hobby. David Sr. and Sandra were huge football fans especially of Manchester United, and they often took David Jr. to games. Young David Beckham attended Bobby Charlton’s football school in Manchester and was even able to attend training sessions in Barcelona, Spain. He played on the youth team, the Ridgeway Rover before being chosen to play with the Tottenham Hotspur’s School of Excellence Club Team. Beckham also attended Brandenton Preparatory Academy. As a teenager, Beckham signed a contract with Manchester United’s Youth Training Scheme.

His rise as a footballer

In 1991, David Beckham joined Manchester United’s Youth Team with coach Eric Harrison. His team won the FA Youth Cup the following year. When he turned 18, Beckham signed as a professional with Manchester United. United’s manager, Sir Alex Ferguson brought in several of the youth team players in the early 1990’s instead of bringing in all seasoned professionals. The youths were nicknamed “Ferguson’s Fledgelings”. Beckham would spend 10 seasons with Manchester United leading them to several titles and gaining a major fan following in England and throughout the world.

He is best known for his passing and crossing abilities and bend-free kicks. He played as a right winger and is considered one of the best Mid Fielders in the world. He served as Captain of the English national football team for six years. He also served as He also served as Captain during World Cups games. In 2007, Beckham joined the LA Galaxy team and signed a five year contract. He helped the team win titles in 2011 and 2012. Beckham also played on international teams including Real Madrid, AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germaine which won the French league title in 2013. Beckham retired that year.

David Beckham served as an inspiration to young football fans throughout the world. The movie “Bend It Like Beckham” was released in 2002. The British comedy was a family movie about a young British girl who wanted to become a football star and was inspired by David Beckham’s ability to score by curling the ball past a wall of defenders. Beckham published “Both Feet On the Ground”, a memoir in 2003.

Endorsements

David Beckham has been featured in many advertisements and has sponsored many ad campaigns. Some of the products he’s endorsed include Adidas, Calvin Klein, Pepsi, Gillette, Coty, Armani, H&M, Brylcream, Samsung, Breitling, Vodafone, Haig and Tudor Luxury Watches. He’s served as ambassador for Britain’s Sky TV and Sainsbury. Beckham and his wife, Victoria, are considered fashion icons and have been featured on several magazine covers and in fragrance ads. They recently appeared with their children on the cover of Vogue.

Philanthropy

David Beckham often thinks of his modest upbringing and giving back to the community and the world is very important to him. In 2005, he was named UNICEF’s Goodwill Ambassador. He focuses on Sports and Development programs throughout the world. David and his wife, Victoria, are patrons of the Elton John AIDS Foundation. In 2009, David Beckham teamed up with Andy Murray to launch the Malaria No More UK campaign. In 2013, Beckham donated his Paris Saint-Germaine salary to two French children’s charities.

What he’s up to now

David Beckham has established soccer schools and most recently purchased teams. In 2005, he founded the DB Academy, a football school in London and Los Angeles. The academy closed a few years later, but Beckham continues to develop a mobile academy in the United Kingdom. Last year, Beckham started “Beckham’s Miami United”. He purchased the major league soccer team in January 2018 and built a stadium that seats 20,000. Beckham’s most recent investment includes purchasing 10% of the English non club Salford City which he owns with several of his “Class of 92” teammates and was just approved by the Football Association. Beckham owns two companies that manage his assets. This includes David Beckham Ventures and Beckham Brand Holdings Ltd (which is a partnership with his wife). The companies manage Seven Global UP which includes the Beckham’s clothing, accessory and fragrance advertising deals, and Footwork Productions which manages Beckham’s name and image rights. Beckham continues to endorse products and also owns some of his own brands. He recently celebrated a year of his company House 99, a grooming brand. The Beckhams also own real estate around the world including homes in London and Los Angeles. They recently sold their LA home for $33.1 million.
