Does Peugeot Still Make the 308?

When you think about stylish cars, you might think about the Peugeot 308. This is a car that is definitely both functional and practical, yet it has a certain class about it that makes it stand out from all of the other compact cars that are out there. Over the years, the Peugeot 308 has been one of the more popular cars in production, but its production hasn’t always been smooth sailing. Despite that fact, the little car has been in production since 2007. More importantly, it has always served as something of a standout among Peugeot’s lineup of compact cars. Recently, a brand new, third generation design was announced.

A Brand New Design

One of the things that has always made this car stand out is the fact that it has both good looks and an ability to get around in tight spaces without taking up much room. That’s one of the most important things for drivers in its native France and many parts of the world. It’s also one of the reasons why Peugeot has always been so popular. Even though the Peugeot 308 hasn’t had a facelift in years, it has now been officially announced that a redesigned version of the car will enter production in September of this year. It’s something that many fans of this stylish little car have been waiting to see for some time. The news was definitely well received, as the Peugeot 308 has long been one of the favorites from this particular automobile manufacturer.

The History of the Peugeot 308

In order to gain a better understanding of the importance of this new announcement, the car’s history must first be revisited. As previously mentioned, this is an automobile that has been in production since 2007, making it one of Peugeot’s most proven automobiles. One of the many reasons that it’s been so popular over the years is the fact that it has come in many different versions. As such, there is something that appeals to almost everyone. For example, the car can be purchased as a three-door or five-door hatchback, a sedan, or a Cabriolet with a hardtop convertible. It has traditionally been on the cusp of the latest style, both inside and outside. By all accounts, it looks like the newest version will definitely continue that tradition. It’s still a compact car that can get down even the smallest of streets without any trouble whatsoever, but the benefits of owning one certainly don’t stop there. This is an automobile that is capable of achieving high levels of success because it caters to people who need a versatile car that also looks good and performs well. One thing that sets it apart is the fact that people who purchase it don’t have to sacrifice style or comfort in order to get a compact car that performs at a high level and gets good gas mileage. Even in today’s more advanced automotive industry, that is quite a rare find. As a result, when something this special comes along that is able to fill so many roles simultaneously, it is no wonder that so many people are clamoring to buy one.

Learning From the Past

Peugeot has had some hard lessons to learn with the 308, not the least of which included a public relations nightmare that occurred back in 2009. The automotive maker had claimed that the 308 was capable of achieving over 120 miles on a single gallon of gas. Even for a compact car like the one in question, that’s quite a claim. It didn’t take long for people to start calling out the automotive maker, with the concern being that they were claiming something that was completely untrue. Once word started getting out about this in the public, Peugeot issued a public retraction along with an apology. They were even forced to change all of their ads that they hadn’t already changed voluntarily, on the basis that those ads were deliberately misleading. This was definitely not one of Peugeot’s best moments, but it is something that they have learned from. When it comes to the newest version of the 308, they have been careful not to make claims that they can’t back up realistically.

Appealing to the Masses

Despite the public relations debacle that they had back in 2009, there is no doubt that this car is capable of getting very good gas mileage. Granted, one may not be able to drive over 1,000 miles on a single tank of gas, but the car is still very competitive with other automobiles in its class. Considering how well it performs and it’s stylish design, it’s easy to understand why it has long been one of the top options out there for people who want a car they can truly love without going overboard on either size or gas mileage. It also explains why the 308 has been a mainstay for the automotive maker for so many years.

At the end of the day, people who are in the market for a new car are typically looking for something that is reliable, up-to-date, and easy to maintain. They don’t want something that uses too much gas, nor do they want to deal with something that is broken down more than it’s actually on the road. The Peugeot 308 has easily gained a reputation as one of the most reliable automobiles out there. It’s always been known for it’s rather stylish design and its ability to fit in even the tightest of parking spaces. When all things are considered, it’s easy to understand why so many people are excited about the announcement of the newest version of the 308. While it’s too early to see what the actual sales will be like, there is no reason to think that the newest generation of the Peugeot 308 won’t be just as popular as all of the examples that have come before it.
