Prada S.p.A. was founded in Italy in 1913. It’s a luxury fashion house and its founders, Mario and Martino Prada, started it originally for selling leather goods. They also sold British steamer trunks that they imported. They later expanded their line to showcase such luxury items as stylish travel accessories, designer perfumes, shoes, leather handbags, ready-to-wear fashions, and many additional designer fashion accessories.

Although Mario firmly believed that women had no place in business, it turned out ironically that his daughter Luisa would take over the running of the business as his successor since Mario’s son had absolutely no interest in it. She ran Prada for close to 20 years and her daughter Miucca eventually took over in 1978 after joining the company in 1970. By 1978, sales had reached an annual $450,000. With her new partner and business manager, Patrizio Bertelli, Miuccia put Prada bags in upscale boutiques and department stores around the world.

Then Prada expanded to opening stores in New York, Madrid, Paris, and Florence. And, in 1984, Prada released their new shoe line followed by an overnight sensation, namely Prada’s classic handbag with that signature Prada aura of luxury.

Miuccia and Bertelli were married in 1987 and they released the Prada collection of ladies’ ready-to-wear fashions in 1989. By the 90s, the Prada brand had become a premium status symbol and sales were reported to be $31.7 million in 1998. In addition, the brand received a coveted award for accessories from the Council of Fashion Designers of America in 1993, following that with another CFDA award for Designer of the Year in 1995.

In 1999, Prada eyewear was formed and the sunglasses and eyeglasses became an overnight hit among consumers. The eyewear offered them high-quality sunglasses and eyeglasses with exquisite and truly unique style. Around the world, everyone from politicians to celebrities started wearing Prada designer eyewear for the exceptional optical clarity and audacious fashion statement.
