10 Things You Didn’t Know about the Harley Davidson Road King
There’s no doubt that you’ve at least heard of the Road King, one of the most profound motorcycles made by Harley-Davidson. This is a bike that was initially made famous with many of its features back in the 1960s and the most modern version still holds true to those classic lines. That fact, coupled with all of the features that are available on this bike, easily make it one of the favorites for dedicated Harley-Davidson fans and new motorcycle riders alike.
1. They’re more comfortable to ride than most bikes
These bikes are well known for being some of the most luxurious rides ever made. It doesn’t matter if you’re riding a short distance or into another state, you’ll be comfortable on a Road King. They’re designed to make you feel like you’re sitting in a comfortable car more than on top of a motorcycle.
2. They are designed with their heritage in mind
As previously mentioned in the introductory paragraph, there’s a great deal of heritage and history that comes with this particular brand of motorcycle. All of that is reflected in the Road King, from the engine that it employs to every single line on the bike itself. It is the quintessential Harley-Davidson motorcycle, one that doesn’t shy away from all of the rich history and vintage design that the company has become so famous for over the years.
3. That doesn’t mean they don’t incorporate the latest in technology
Just because the bike looks like a vintage design doesn’t mean that it operates like one, not by a long shot. In fact, this motorcycle incorporates all of the latest technology, far more than most people would expect to get with any motorcycle.
4. It features electronic fuel injection
One of the pieces of technology that Harley-Davidson employed for the Road King is electronic fuel injection. This accomplishes several different things. First and foremost, it provides an avenue for the motorcycle to have more power than it would otherwise. It also allows it to operate more smoothly. The engine runs so smooth that it’s easy to forget you’re on motorcycle. That also means that it’s not practically shaking your teeth out just because you started it like some bikes do.
5. It’s quiet without losing that classic sound
There’s no doubt about it, this motorcycle has that classic Harley Davidson sound. The company would have been absolutely nuts to design a motorcycle without it. That being said, it also features dual mufflers that are tapered, so it doesn’t make as much noise as far as other people are concerned as some of the earlier versions did. This allows you to enjoy that classic deep Harley-Davidson engine sound without annoying your neighbors every time you decide to go for a ride.
6 .It gets great gas mileage
One of the reasons that a lot of people decide to get a motorcycle in the first place is for better gas mileage. This one is certainly no exception. As a matter of fact, you can expect to get about 45 miles to the gallon with this particular motorcycle.
7. You can adjust the shocks to fit your own needs
One of the best things about this bike is that you can adjust the shocks so that it rides a little bit softer according to your own wishes. It’s easy to do, too. It only takes a few minutes so you can customize the way the bike rides, at least to a certain extent, without buying expensive aftermarket parts or spending forever and a day working on it in order to get it the way you want it.
8. The bike features ABS brakes
It’s already been mentioned that the bike features the latest in technology. That includes an anti-lock braking system, better known as ABS brakes. This is what ensures that the brakes are applied in a controlled manner when you really hit the brakes hard. Basically, it prevents the motorcycle from skidding and can protect you by preventing an accident.
9. It comes with cruise control
30 or 40 years ago, people probably would never have dreamed that a motorcycle would come with cruise control but the Road King does. This is a great feature if you’re riding on long distances and you want to be able to move around a little bit more freely on the bike without constantly having that movement affect your speed. All in all, it makes the entire experience more comfortable.
10. It’s part of a dynasty that’s been going strong since 1903
Remember, Harley-Davidson has been producing motorcycles for more than 100 years. Therefore, it only stands to reason that the Road King would turn out to be something special.
