10 Things You Didn't Know about Janus Motorcycles

Janus Motorcycles are a relatively new company but they have established a good reputation in the time that they have been operating. They are based in the USA and their founders had worked in the motorcycle business for a while before starting their own company. Here are ten facts that you may not know about Janus Motorcycles.

1. Their First Model Was The Halycon 50

The first model to be released by the company was the Halycon 50 which had a six speed gear box. It also had a sprung seat and wide handlebars and buyers could choose a number of optional upgrades such as leather saddlebags. Over time this model has been redeveloped and it was eventually replaced by the Halycon 250 which is the model that is being sold currently.

2. It Took Two Years For This Model To Be Released

The company wanted to make sure that everything was perfect with this model before it was released and development of the bike took two years. The Halycon 50 was very well received and so it seems that this was a decision that paid off. It was a bit of a learning curve for the company but one that has stood them in good stead for the way the business has progressed.

3. They Source Most Of Their Components Locally

With the exception of some of the electronics, most of the parts that are used on their bikes come from with 20 miles of their factory. This is something that is very important to the company as they care very much about their local area in Northern Indiana. They claim that the spirit of this region is in every bike that they make.

4. They Only Have A Small Team

The company was founded by Devin Biek and Richard Worsham and they are still heavily involved in the business to this day. As the company has grown then more employees have been taken on but it is still a relatively small team. This helps them maintain the ethos of a local, friendly business that they have worked so hard to create.

5. EPA Emissions Have Been Approved In 49 States

There was a concern that the two stroke engines that were originally used would not adhere to the EPA pollution limits. They overcame this problem by developing bikes that used four stroke engines. It was announced in January 2018 that they have been given the approval of the EPA in 49 states.

6. Their Designs Are Very Much Influenced By The Past

Everyone at Janus Motorcycles believes that there is much that can be learned by looking at the past. This is a principle that they have closely followed when designing their bikes which would not look out of place in the 1920s and 30s. Their thought process is that there is little point in trying to design something new when the designs from the past work so well.

7. They Make A Scrambler Motorcycle

The Gryffin 250 is a scrambler bike that has off road capabilities. This has been well received by people that like to do a little more exploring than a bigger motorcycle would allow them to do. The bike is small and quick and is often used in off road racing.

8. They Put A Greater Emphasis On Experience Than Performance

When you purchase a Janus motorcycle, the company want you to have some great experiences while you are riding it. They believe that when you are riding a smaller bike you are not overcome by the power of the machine and this gives you a better chance to appreciate your surroundings. Riding a bike immerses you in driving much more than you would find in any other type of vehicle.

9. They Run Discovery Days At Their Headquarters

Discovery Days are a great way for fans of Janus Motorcycles to find out more about the company. These days include a tour of the facilities and the chance to meet the staff that work there. They even throw in lunch and coffee.

10. They Are Very Active On Instagram

The team at Janus want to see the experiences that people have when they are riding their bikes. They encourage fans to tag them in photos that they post on Instagram and they also post a lot of images of their own. It can be a great source of inspiration if you are thinking of taking a road trip on your bike.
