How Jordan Peele Achieved a Net Worth of $12 Million

Jordan Peele

Jordan Peele is an actor, comedian, writer, director, and producer. At the beginning of his career, he was best known for his comedic work. However, he is now known equally well for his work in horror films. His career began in 2002, and he has enjoyed success in many different aspects of the entertainment industry since. It is now estimated that he has a personal net worth of $12 million, and here is how he accrued this wealth.

Jordan Peele’s Early Life

Peele was born in New York City on February 21, 1979. He was raised in Manhattan by his single mother. Although he attended Sarah Lawrence College, Jordan Peele dropped out to form a comedy duo with his roommate, Rebecca Drysdale.

Peele’s Career from 2002 to 2009

Although he began his career with Rebecca Drysdale, Peele would also often perform musical duets with Nicole Parker at Boom Chicago in Amsterdam and as a solo entertainer at The Second City. His fame grew beyond his stage performances when he hosted the 2002 MTV Comedy Weekend at Boom Chicago.

A year later, he became a cast member in the ninth season of Mad TV at the same time as Keegan-Michael Key. Peele became known for his comedic impersonations. Over the coming years, he continued to perform for Mad TV and performed for several viral videos. He eventually left the cast of Mad TV in the 13th season after being a cast member for five seasons.

His Career from 2010 Onwards

After leaving Mad TV, Peele decided to expand his career to other television projects. He co-starred in the pilot for ‘The Station’ in 2010 and then landed a recurring role in ‘Children’s Hospital’, an adult swim series. He also got his first supporting role in a film when he appeared in the 2012 comedy film ‘Wanderlust’.

From 2012 to 2105, Peele and Keegan-Michael Key starred in ‘Key & Peele’, which was their own comedy sketch series that aired on Comedy Central. This series was a big success and propelled Peele to mainstream fame. The series also spawned multiple videos that went viral online.

Peele then landed an acting role when he was cast as an FBI agent for the first season of ‘Fargo’, which was an FX anthology series based on the film of the same name that was released in 1996. Two years later, he and Key starred together in the leading roles in the film ‘Keanu’.

This was a reasonably successful film that received predominantly good reviews from the critics. By 2017, Jordan Peele had decided to alter the course of his career and try his hand at directing. His directorial debut ‘Get Out’ was released that year to great critical acclaim.

From Comedy to Horror

Not only was this a switch from appearing in front of the camera to having a behind-the-camera role, but it was also a move away from comedy and towards horror. The film was chosen by multiple organizations and publications as one of the top releases of 2017.

As it grossed more than $225 million at the worldwide box office from a budget of just $4.5 million, ‘Get Out’ was also one of the most commercially successful films of the year. Peele won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay and the Writers Guild of America Award for Best Original Screenplay.

The success of this film led to Peele announcing his intention to retire from acting in 2018. He had discovered a passion for directing and decided that this should be his focus for the future. In the same year, he co-created the comedy series ‘The Last O.G.’ and co-produced the film ‘BlacKkKlansman’. This film was his second to receive great critical acclaim and box office success.

Current Work and Upcoming Projects

Since the beginning of 2019, Peele has released the YouTube Premium series ‘Weird City’, which he co-created with Charlie Sanders. Peele also directed his second film ‘Us’, which was released in March 2019. This horror-thriller film starred Lupita Nyong’o, Tim Heidecker, Elisabeth Moss, and Winston Duke.

Also in 2019, Peele developed and narrated ‘The Twilight Zone’, which is a science fiction web series that is a revival of the original series that aired on CBS from 1959 to 1964. Jordan Peele now has many upcoming projects, although the level of his involvement in some of the projects has not been confirmed.

There have been many rumors about him teaming up with Keegan-Michael Key again for several projects, although Peele has not confirmed this. However, he has expressed an interest in creating a film around a character from ‘Key & Peele’.

One project that has been confirmed is his involvement in a remake of the film ‘Candyman’. Rumors regarding his involvement first began to circulate back in early 2018. Later in the same year, Peele confirmed that he is producing the film. Filming began in the spring of 2019, and it is believed that the film is set for release in June 2020.

This film is being directed by Nia DaCosta, and the film is described as a spiritual sequel to the first film. Some of the confirmed cast includes Lakeith Stanfield, Teyonah Parris, Coman Domingo, and Nathan Stewart-Jarret.
