How Lilian Garcia Achieved a Net Worth of $6 Million

Lilian Garcia

Ever heard someone complain that another person does very little yet gets paid handsomely? Usually, those are the remarks of someone who has been manually working and yet the paycheck shows meager earnings, and when they compare their salary to that of the manager who sits in the office all day, they wonder why he takes home a fat paycheck. Not many people understand that work does not necessarily have to be lifting heavy objects and soiling overalls; the brain also works tirelessly, and without the manager knowing how to steer the company in the right direction, the employees might as well start clearing their desks. There is nothing like too much or too little work; work is work, and whatever you do as long as it puts food on the table and clothes on your back, you should be proud. That said, did you know that Lilian Garcia has accumulated a net worth of $6 million from her mouth only? It is hard to believe, but once you picture renowned stand-up comedians who make a living from cracking jokes alone, you will realize that everyone has something they can use to make money so here is how Lilian Garcia has used her vocal gift to become rich.

WWE Announcer

Some careers are risky, especially when the involve locking heads with professional wrestlers, but Lilian Garcia seems to be comfortable in the WWE ring as an announcer. She chose the career path due to her love for sports and was lucky to be hired in 1999 as a ring announcer by the World Wrestling Federation. However much she loves her job, it has not been without some embarrassing moments such as two instances where her underwear has been exposed due to some altercation with two wrestlers; one who did not like her announcing that he had lost due to disqualification and another who did not like the name Lilian used to refer to her.

While these episodes happened in 1999 and you would think that she would be embarrassed enough to have had her underwear displayed on national television and perhaps quit, but Lilian has proven to be a strong woman. Her underwear exposure was yet to be done when in November 2003, she was stripped to her bra by Jackie Gayda who became angry after Lilian announced Trish Stratus as a winner of bra and panties match.

Luckily all these unfortunate incidents have not been without a huge payoff. Lilian Garcia is reputed as the highest-paid ring announcer in history, going by the claims of Sportsala. Usually, the basic salary for a ring announcer is around $400,000, but given Lilian’s experience and the fact that she was the first choice by management for the announcing job, she makes approximately $500,000 per year from her ring announcing position.

What’s more, is that Lilian Garcia also engages herself in pay-per-view events, which go to increase her earnings. The estimated earning for each pay-per-view event is $15,000 and considering that around 12 such fights occur every year, that would bring the total income from pay-per-view events to about $180,000. The total, therefore, would mean that Lilian makes roughly $680,000.

Lilian became the first only “Decade Diva” at WWE in August 2009 when she celebrated ten years of being with the company. Since her retirement, she still makes part-appearances as a ring announcer, and it is evident that WWE still acknowledges her abilities trusting her to announce the first-ever Wrestlemania’s Women’s Battle Royal and WWE Women’s pay-per-view, in 2018.

Singing

Most of us believe that just because we sing in the shower, we can sing and even get inspiration from “Ratatouille” where at the end of the movie, we believed anyone could cook, even a rat. As with everything, singing takes talent and practice, and Lilian Garcia began singing when she was five. Little Garcia participated in the singing contest alongside her sister and her mother supported her by chaperoning so Lilian could sing and by the time she was a teenager, Lilian was performing in bands in Columbia, South Carolina.

While that barely made any money for her, Lilian Garcia’s singing career took off when The Rock, a former WWE wrestler discovered that she could sing and asked if she could sing the national anthem during a live event they were holding. Lilian revealed to Ringside News that The Rock talked to the producers and Lilian performed on three consecutive days so well that even Vince McMahon was impressed enough to have her singing the national anthem in every live event.

With her gifted voice, Lilian joined legends including Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, Reba McEntire and Ray Charles who have performed at WWE live events. Matter of fact is she surpassed the record that Aretha Franklin held by performing at three Wrestlemania events: Wrestlemania 2000, Wrestlemania 2000 and Wrestlemania XXVIII, according to Wikipedia. She also has become a household name for other sports events with her performances at Major League Baseball, National Football League, and National Basketball Association among other events, although such performances do not pay musicians a dime but rather cover the costs involved.

Her first single titled “Shout” made it to Billboard Hot 100 at number 69 and Lilian was so excited to see that her efforts were paying off, that she ran down the streets of New York in disbelief. With the renewed energy she went to the studios, and on October 9, 2007, released her album “¡Quiero Vivir!” which sold 3,800 copies in the United States alone by October 14, 2007. Her album even made the top 100 in the UK while in the US it was ranked among the top 250, according to Wikipedia. She also has an EP to her name and a band, The Fuse, through which she performed her first show in Club Madrid on June 14, 2014. Concerts bring in money for musicians and with a voice like Lilian’s coupled with her worldwide recognition she is bound to sell many tickets translating to loads of money.
