Keith Allman is the current CEO of Masco Corporation. As such, he is an important figure in a couple of economic sectors in the United States and beyond. One would be home improvement, while the other would be new home construction. Here are 10 things that you may or may not have known about Keith Allman:
1. Studied Mechanical Engineering
When Allman was still in school, he studied the subject of mechanical engineering. In short, mechanical engineering came to the forefront of things in the Industrial Revolution, not least because of the introduction of machine tools. This was critical because the increasing mechanization of the Industrial Revolution created an enormous demand for metal parts that couldn’t be met with ease by either cast iron or wrought iron, meaning that machine tools played a very important role in meeting that particular need.

Speaking of which, Allman went to the General Motors Institute, which existed to provide talent for General Motors as well as other car companies through education that put a huge emphasis on co-op. In 1998, the school changed its name to Kettering University, which was meant to enable it to establish its own identity as well as emphasize the expansion of its educational offerings. However, there is still a clear connection, seeing as how Kettering refers to General Motors’s one-time head of research Charles Kettering.

Besides mechanical engineering, Allman has studied business administration as well, which is perhaps unsurprising when he happens to be responsible for running one of the biggest companies in the United States. As for the place where he studied business administration, that would be the Stephen M. Ross School of Business, which is the business school associated with the University of Michigan. OEMs are the car manufacturers themselves, which should be the most familiar to most people out there. Meanwhile, Tier 1 suppliers are the ones who sell their products in a direct manner to OEMs, Tier 2 suppliers are the ones who sell products that will wind up in cars but don’t do so in a direct manner to OEMs, and Tier 3 suppliers are the ones who provide either raw materials or very close to raw materials.
6. Has Experience with Various Functions
Top-tier business leaders need experience with a wide range of functions because they are responsible for overseeing a wide range of functions. As mentioned earlier, Allman has a lot of experience with manufacturing. However, it stands to reason that he would possess considerable expertise and experience with other functions as well. In particular, his Bloomberg profile mentions finance, marketing, product development, and more besides.
7. Oversees Products Meant for Both Home Improvement and New Home Construction
Masco Corporation manufactures products that are meant for use in both home improvement and new home construction. For example, one section of the corporation is responsible for making cabinets for various place situated throughout the home. Likewise, another section of the corporation is responsible for various kinds of plumbing products. The result is that Masco Corporation oversees numerous products falling under numerous brands.
8. Sees Himself As a “Transformational Leader”
In the past, Allman has called himself a “transformational leader.” In fact, he outright stated that it was how he was perceived by the Board of Directors, which was responsible for him being chosen for his current position. As such, Allman stated at the time that he was willing to consider acquisitions, divestitures, and other maneuvers to create more value for the shareholders.

In Masco Corporation’s case, it is interesting to note that their operations can be impacted to a considerable extent by the seasons.
