Who Is Maxine Waters?

You might be reading this and have no idea who Maxine Waters even is. She is actually a politician from the state of California. However, she did not always live in the state of the Golden Gate Bridge. She was actually in St. Louis, Missouri back in 1939. She would live there until she began to ate school at California State University in Los Angeles. She never left the state and would begin her career in politics back in 1976.

Her Beginnings

Maxine Waters began her political tenure be serving in the California State Assembly. She was wildly popular in her 48th district, as evidenced by her continual reelection to the seat for more than a decade. In fact, she would hold onto that seat until 1990 when she decided to run for a vacant seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. She is a member of the Democratic Party and was seeking to enter the national political spectrum for the firsts time. She would get elected in 1991. She is still there, In fact, she was just recently elected to the 43rd Congressional District of the U.S. House of Representatives from the state of California. She continues to serve to this day.

As she has now been a U.S. Representative for more than two decades, she is the senior black woman currently representing any state in the U.S. Congress. In the past, she was the former chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus. She is still a member today, even though she no longer head the Caucus. She is not afraid to go toe to toe with her political opponents. Since she has been in office, she has been vocally critical of the policies implemented by both President Bush’s and now Donald Trump.

Her Wealth

Maxine Waters did not get to this point in her career without causing a bit of controversy of her own. In the past, she has faced more than one allegation of corruption, even though nothing was ever proven or charges ever filed. She currently has over $1.5 million in assets. Her home alone is valued at between one to four million dollars. It shifts wildly given the current state of the real estate market. In short, she has achieved quite a lot during her time as a politician, with much of it coming in the form of various investments that she has been involved in.

Her Family and Her Accolades

Maxine Waters is not the only well-known person in her family. Her second husband, Sid Williams, is actually a former professional football player. He played for several seasons in the NFL. In addition, he was appointed as a U.S. Ambassador to the Bahamas when President Clinton was in office. When she was still a member of the California State Assembly, she was active in her local community and gang prevention efforts. In Watts, the Maxine Waters Preparation Center has been named after her. This is a place where young people can go to get career training and prepare for life outside of school and free of gangs.

She is very active in the black community and efforts aimed at social and racial justice matters. To that end, she is the co-founder of the Black Women’t Forum. This has sufficiently increased her name recognition to the point that she is one of the more known faces in the Democratic Party today. At the same time, she is the co-founder of Community Build. This is an organization that is focused on strengthened minority communities across the country. In the past, she was also a recipient of the Bruce F. Vento Award. This is given by the National Law Center on Homelessness and Poverty. She would receive this award because of work to help the plight of the homeless in her home district. This has been a significant problem for decades, and Waters has used her considerable influence to implements measure designed to assist in efforts designed to provide much needed assistance. Back in 1992, she was given the Candace Award, which is granted by a National Coalition of 100 black women.

Maxine Waters has earned her wealth by being touch and ruthless. She is black and she is a woman, so she is the first to admit that she has long faced an uphill battle. However, she has been up to the task at every step of the way and has never backed down. She is famous for her encounters with members of the opposite party who she has long accused of serving only the interests while neglecting the poor. She is not intimated and will gladly stand up for a fight when it comes her way. You might disagree with her tactics, but that does not really matter. What matters is that the people in California love her and continue to send her back to Congress. This is how she has been able to achieve more than $2 million in personal wealth.
