Michael Richards is best known for his role as Cosmo Kramer on the television sitcom “Seinfeld” from the 1990s. He’s an American actor who has a net worth the at is currently estimated at $45 million. This is a massive fortune, but how did Richards come to be so very wealthy? His early years

Richards was born in Culver City, California in July of 1949. He grew up in the area and after he graduated from high school, Michael enrolled in classes at the California Institute of the Arts. He went on to enroll in the drama program at The Evergreen State College where he earned his bachelors of arts degree in 1975. While attending college he become involved with actor Ed Begley Jr. and the two performed an improv act but they didn’t perform for long. When the Vietnam War broke out, Richards was drafted and he would spend a total of two years in service in the United States Army. This was a major interruption in his acting career which was just getting started, but it would have to be put on hold.

His first big break

Michael resumed his acting career when his tour of duty was over. He was privileged to appear on Billy Crystal’s first cable television special in 1979 and this gave Richards his first big break that would give him the exposure to the American audience that he needed. In 1989, a decade later he got his next big break in 1989 when he was cast in the role as Cosmo Kramer on “Seinfeld.” This would become the role that he received the most attention from in his acting career. It wasn’t a situation that brought instant fame because the series had a slow start but within a few short years it became a big hit and ended up being one of the most profitable television series that ever hit the air waves. Richards was recognize with several Emmys and he won more of them than any of the other cast members on the show. He also won an Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for two consecutive years in a row in 1993, then again in 1994 and again in 1997.

Other film appearances

Micheal has made appearances in some other films including “Air Heads,” “UHF” and Coneheads.” He was considered for the lead role in the television series “Monk,” but it didn’t work out for him. Still, he has done remarkably well throughout his career.

His salary

Richards was making a whopping $150,000 per episode when he was a cast member of “Seinfeld” in the early 1990s. During the last few seasons of the series, he received a significant increase in his salary and was bringing in a massive $600,000 per episode. Michael Richards was earning $13 million a year towards the end of the long running series.

His personal life

Richards was married to Cathleen Lyons, a casting director for a period of time. The couple had a daughter together during their marriage, but the relationship ended in divorce in 1992. Michael became involved with actress Beth Skipp and the couple became engaged in 2007. His current home is in Glendale, California
