He was well-connected and knew how to use this to his advantage. He served as a disc jockey for military radio and the job lasted for about a year and a half. When he returned back to the United States and to civilian life, his firs civilian job was with a small Chicago Spanish radio station. He was given his own show that was broadcast in English and aired from midnight to six in the morning. His audience was limited and the show didn’t do very well because of language differences.

Sajak relocated to Los Angeles in the late 1970s. He had a strong desire to work in the entertainment industry. Upon moving to LA, his first job was as a full time weatherman for KNBC-TV in 1977. He kept his ear to the ground for jobs in entertainment and he was given his first big break in 1983 when Merv Griffin offered him Chuck Woolery’s former job as the host of the game show Wheel of Fortune.
