How Steve Harvey Achieved a Net Worth of $120 Million

Game show and talk show host Steve Harvey has a net worth of $120 million, but how did he amass such a tremendous fortune? We looked into the history to find out just how Steve Harvey built his net worth. Here is what we discovered about the star.

Before he became a famous television personality, Steve Harvey was a college dropout who found jobs doing whatever he could to earn a living. Among the positions he held were auto plant assembly line worker, carpet cleaner, and insurance salesman. Harvey's first real break was as host of the television series "Showtime at the Apollo."

The series ran from 1992 through 2000. Just four years after appearing in this show, he secured his own television series called "The Steve Harvey Show," running from 1996 to 2002. This was the beginning of a career that would lead him from one success to another, raking in the dough by the millions. He is also the host of a radio show which is still on the air today.

Steve is a favorite game show host

In 2010, he began hosting the long running and popular television game show "Family Feud" through 2015. His dynamic personality led him to great success in the show and his career continue to progress. He received multiple offers to host major events. In 2015, Harvey had an embarrassing moment when announcing the wrong winner at the "Miss Universe Pageant" that year. All was forgiven and Harvey was able to move beyond it with no apparent harm to his career, other than a little hurt pride perhaps, but hey, who's perfect?

A talented comedian

Steve Harvey is well-known as a comedian and this was part of his tremendous appeal to event planners that earned him so many prestigious announcer offers. He's funny, but in a personable way.

He's one of those rare comedians who can be genuinely funny without the need to descend into the depths of raunchiness. It just seems to come naturally for the talented entertainer. The various special appearances that Steve Harvey made has helped to some degree, in the building of his current net wealth.

His career continued to escalate

Harvey had already earned success and notoriety for his comedy and hosting contributions, but this would not be the extent of his portfolio. He went on to work as an actor, producer and director. He's also the published author of a best selling book written in 2009, titled "Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man."

The book was later turned into a romantic comedy titled "Think Like a Man," and it made bank at the box office, further building the reserves in Harvey's bank account. He's authored several books, but most recently, he discusses the secrets of his success in "Jump: Take the Leap of Faith to Achieve Your Life of Abundance." When you take the time to review his accomplishments in life, it's apparent that Steve Harvey is an expert on the subject.

Harvey is also an actor

Not everyone has seen Steve Harvey's acting, or is even aware that he's been in several films. He co-starred with Cedric the Entertainer, Bernie Mac and D.L. Hughley in "The Original Kings of Comedy." Some of other 20 something appearances in film include: "Love Don’t Cost a Thing," "The Original Kings of Comedy, "Madea Goes to Jail" and several others. These films helps significantly in building Harvey's net worth.

His education

Steve Harvey may have dropped out of college, but he was granted an honorary doctorate degree from Alabama State University in 2016. He's an Emmy Award winner times two for Outstanding Talk Show and Outstanding Game Show Host. This is not a degree that is conferred lightly.

It is given for outstanding achievements and expert knowledge in certain areas and Harvey definitely fits the bill. He was honored with a BET Humanitarian Award for the contributions he's made in the entertainment world in 2011. He earned his star in the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2013.

From stand up comedy gigs to full blown superstar

Harvey started out his career in comedy pulling stand up gigs in venues such as Cleveland's Hilarities Comedy Club, then participated in the Johnnie Walker National Comedy Search and advanced to the fianlist stage. It was after this that he got his big break with "It's Showtime at the Apollo."

Other business investments

In addition to his career in entertainment, Steve Harvey also developed his own line of clothing. This is not surprising when you glance at the fine couture he shows up in for his work gigs. He's a high stepper and dresser with loads of class and style. It's only fitting, no pun intended, that Harvey would have his own clothing line. Steve Harvey is doing well with a net worth of $120 million, but he's not through yet.
