The Average Cost to Attend an Arizona Diamondbacks Game
Phoenix’s very own D-backs may be looking at an average midseason grade so far, but it surely hasn’t stopped local fans from visiting the Chase Field to see their favorite Major League Baseball team. The Arizona Diamondbacks currently have 37 games left in the season, and they’re looking to go up against some impressive teams. If you’re looking to spend the day at the ballpark, make sure you bring in the cash because it sure does cost money regardless of the team you’re going to see. Even though the D-backs typically tally up the lowest when it comes to game day expenses, the costs still add up at the end of the day.
Formerly called the Bank One Ballpark, Chase Field is the home base of the D-backs. Throughout its history, the baseball team has played every single home game in that ballpark, so there’s a kind of loyalty among fans that has developed over the years. Chase Field was the first ever stadium in the nation that has a retractable roof and a playing surface made of natural grass at the same time. It’s a stunning establishment that has an impressive seating capacity of over 48,600 people. The 20-year old stadium is also host to other events such as concerts, bull riding events, and even WWE events.
A Typical Game Day
With that being said, there’s no better way to experience the field other than attending a baseball game. A typical game day could literally last an entire day, especially if you reserve some extra time for tailgating before the game. Of course, if you plan to tailgate, consider the extra expenses that go with that as well. You could always attend someone’s tailgate, but with proper tailgate etiquette, you have to make sure that you don’t come empty handed. It’s only right. Once it starts, a typical baseball game could go on for as long as 3 hours or even longer, so expect to have a lot of eating, drinking, and cheering in between.
To start the tally of expenses, let’s take into account the cost of tailgating first. For a simple tailgate for four people, game day snacks such as chips, hotdogs, and burgers are typical. You’ll have to bring in some drinks as well, whether you’re buying beer, soda, bottled water or anything else. You could easily budget $75 to $100 for a good enough time. That amount should keep you well satisfied until you can go into the field for even more food and drinks. The good thing about that amount is it isn’t so bad when split between four adults. $25 for a proper tailgate doesn’t sound so bad.
Ticketing
Next, you’ll have to have your tickets of course. The best seats for a typical D-back game can cost you roughly $140 plus fees. Standard tickets could go for $60 plus fees, while budget tickets will run you $20 a piece plus fees. For the sake of this tally, we’ll add up the cost of four standard tickets to equal $240 plus fees. The tickets won’t get you anything else other than through the gate, so be prepared to spend extra cash on everything else. Everything else at this point means food and drinks, paraphernalia, souvenirs, and parking.
At The Concessions
Food and drinks at the Chase Field won’t cost you too much. On average, drinks will cost you about $6 each while hotdogs will cost $5 each. In total, your food and drink budget will be at least about $45 plus more if you get extras. Various paraphernalia and souvenirs will vary in price. It’ll cost you more if you buy jerseys or hats at the stadium, and you’re likely to get something especially if you’re a fan. For this purpose, we’ll budget $20 for the price of a baseball cap—whether you buy it before the game or during the game.
Find Your Parking
Finally, make sure you add parking to your budget. The closest parking spaces to Chase Field will cost you $20. You might find luck getting something cheaper, but you’ll likely be quite a walk away.
Total Costs
So with everything tallied up, you’re looking to spend at least $425 for an awesome day at the ballpark. That number is for four adults, and it includes many bells and whistles. You could easily bring that number down if you eliminate some of the excesses. For just the basics of watching baseball, you could get away with zero tailgate, basic tickets at $20 each, basic budget for food, drinks, and parking, and no extra paraphernalia spent. A basic baseball day will cost you about $150 plus taxes and fees. Split between four adults, the cost will be $37.50 per person plus fees. Regardless on how much you spend to attend an Arizona Diamondbacks game, you can have a great time as long as the game is good and your company even better.
