The Story of How Gateway Classic Cars Became the Largest Dealer of Its Kind

Gateway Classic Cars is a phenomenon that first began in late 1990s and since, has grown to become the biggest classic car company on the planet. It’s been in business for 18 years, and the company growth has been tremendous. While many other classic car dealers struggle to keep the doors open, Gateway has galloped into the lead and is thriving. Part of their success is in the approach that the staff takes in delivering customer service. Here is the story of how Gateway Classic Cars became the largest dealer of its kind.

Gateway set themselves up for success

The unique business strategy that the company first established has consistently provided what their target audience is searching for. The company’s administration set forth high standards in the quality of their products, excellence in customer service, convenient website advertisements and transparency in the way that they do business. Gateway Classic Cars diligently worked to build consumer confidence and their strategy paid of as a string of new showrooms continue to pop up throughout the United States.

Maintaining high standards

In part, the rapid growth and success of Gateway Classic Cars has been because of their solid commitment to offer classic cars to serious buyers and to focus upon the details that matter to their clients. Satisfied customers are return customers, and establishing an excellent reputation through word of mouth does more for a business than any expensive advertisements that can be purchased. The team has made good on their promise to deliver high quality vehicles.

A multiple service dealer with a range of options

The business purchases, sells and consigns high quality classic cars. They’ve built a strong reputation for maintaining a stable inventory that gives clients a range of options to choose from, with a steady flow of additions that has made the company a stable and reliable provider for classic car enthusiasts. It is in essence, a one stop shop for classic car buffs. Gateway Classic Cars is also willing to trade under certain circumstances. Their sales staff are friendly, knowledgeable and helpful when working with customers.

Gateway Classic Cars offers interesting and hard to find treasures

The company has steadily built its inventory to a daily average of more than 1,800 vehicles on display and for sale. To date, they have sold more than 34,000 collector and classic cars, and they offer exotics and rare models among their stock. Collectors enjoy browsing through their inventory because it rotates on a regular basis with new models coming in frequently.

They’ve consistently expanded the number of showrooms

Gateway Classic Cars began with their headquarters and just one showroom in St. Louis in 1999. They’ve expanded the number of showrooms to a total of 13 in the U.S. including Alpharetta, GA, Dallas, TX, Chicago, Milwaukee, Nashville, Tampa, Orlando, Tampa, Houston, Louisville, Indianapolis, Detroit and Ft. Lauderdale. Plans to expand to Philadelphia are currently in the works.

They are involved with the community

Gateway participates in charity events to support the local communities through two volunteer projects they sponsor. Their Cars and Coffee events donate proceeds to Backstoppers, an organization that helps support injured paramedics and police officers and families. Another organization they sponsor is the Demetrius Johnson Foundation which aids the inner city youth of St. Louis in graduating from high school and it also provides opportunities for them to participate in the arts and music programs. The company also sponsors car club meetings at some of their showrooms.

International sales

The fame of Gateway Classic Cars is far reaching and they’ve attracted customers from around the world with 11 percent of their sales being exports to foreign companies. Gateway Classic Cars continues to plan ahead and expand their business. There are currently plans in place to open an additional 25 showrooms within their home country and in the future, some overseas.

Final observations

Gateway Classic Cars has been around long enough to become a well established business. Their tremendous growth in the last 18 years has been largely due to excellent planning, providing high quality products and services, and for giving customers a reason to want to return and tell others about their experiences. They maintain an excellent selection of classic cars that is appealing for serious buyers. Through adherence to solid quality and customer based standards, the Gateway has become a favorite in their classification and they stand as an example of how sticking to a plan that works and pushing ever forward can bring about great success in business.
