The Five Best Pairs of Ugg Sneakers on The Market

CA805 X Yokoo Self Portrait Sneakers

Back in the early 2000s, UGGs were everywhere. Grandmothers wore them, toddlers wore them, celebs wore them, we wore them. Basically, if you had feet, you wore them. But in the end, they became a victim of their own success. By the 2010s, no one with an ounce of fashion sense would be seen dead in a pair (although plenty of us still kept a few around the house to secretly slop around in). Rather than be defeated, UGG re-grouped and began broadening its focus. And now it's back. The classic pull-on boots are still there, but so are sneakers, sandals, loafers, slippers, and a score of other styles. If you've got fond memories of that iconic sheepskin coziness, it's time to get with the times and turn your attention to these five fabulous pairs of UGG sneakers.

CA805 X Cali Sunset

CA805 X Cali Sunset

Named after the area code where UGG is headquartered and inspired by the brand's heritage, the CA805 X Cali Sunset has a vibe that's 100% Californian. With their mix of practical utility and laid-back style, the sneakers capture the West Coast spirit to perfection. They form part of the 12x12, a collection that takes on a new theme every month with limited edition pieces that celebrate a particular place, thing, or person that inspires UGG. In this case, the inspiration is a beachside California sunset. How do you capture a sunset in a sneaker, you ask? By creating a coastal panorama via a sand-speckled outsole, a colorful pastel upper, and an ocean-inspired midsole, of course. And strange though it sounds, it works. But even if your imagination won't stretch to the point where you can see a sunset in a sneaker, it doesn't take a heap of creative thinking to realize these are a fabulous pair of shoes. Not to mention a very practical pair. The cushioning of the Treadlite sports outsole guarantees all-day support, the leather overlay on the uppers provides added durability, while the breathable textile lining keeps your feet fresh and odorless no matter how long you wear them.

UGG + Eckhaus Latta Block Lace Sneakers

UGG + Eckhaus Latta Block Lace Sneakers

Why stick with one great brand when you could have two for the same price? Earlier this year, UGG teamed up for the 2nd time in what's proving to be a very fruitful collaboration with fashion label Eckhaus Latta. As instyle.com writes, the result was a collection that spanned two very noughties-looking platform clogs, a cowboy boot, a sheepskin free reinterpretation of the square toe mule from the first collection, a couple of pairs of lace-up sandals perfect for dancing, and these very funky sneakers. The in-house slippers and fuzzy boots UGG made its name with 20 years ago were conspicuous by their absence... but who needs the classics when you can have something this good instead? Featuring a distinctive square toe, a unique flared outsole, and a very pretty Moroccan Blue colorway, the sneakers marry the innovative sensibilities of Eckhaus Latta with the practical attention to detail UGG stakes its reputation on. The result is a sneaker that doesn't just look great, but feels it too. Expect fantastically supple full-grain leather uppers, a padded collar, lamp leather lining, and the whole caboodle of UGG proprietary technologies (including a cushioned EVA midsole for superior support, a PORON foam footbed for a cushy feel, and a flexible Treadlite outsole). With their glorious blend of utility and style, they'll inject new life into even the best of wardrobes.

Pismo High Cozy Sneakers

Who would have thought 20 years ago that UGG would end up making high tops? Not us, for sure, but if this very stylish pair is anything to go by, we're very glad they have. If you like no holds barred luxury, you're going to love the Pismo. Advertised as one of UGG's most luxurious men's sneakers yet, the Pismo gives us a contemporary spin on classic luxe with a look that pairs chic detailing with exquisite craftsmanship. Made from premium leather and featuring all the classic details you'd expect from a pair of UGGs (including cushy, pure wool lining on the tongue and collar, a lamp leather sock lining, an enerG Comfort System insole that as chicagotribune.com notes, is the reason so many people wear UGGs without bothering with socks, and a flexible Treadlite outsole), they're the perfect combination of function and style. Best of all, the clean, refined finish and understated design make them as easy to dress up as down.

CA805 Zip Mesh Sneakers

CA805 Zip Mesh Sneakers

If you want a pair of sneakers that will boost your height while still feeling stable, the CA805 Zip Mesh Sneaker could be just your answer. With a chunky sole and a look that takes it inspiration from classic California style, they're the ultimate in sports chic. They also deliver in spades on the comfort front: the layered mesh and leather uppers keep things lightweight, breathable, and durable, the stretch gore and practical medical zipper allow for easy on-off, while the bouncy Treadlite sports sole offers superlative levels of flexibility and durability. And unlike a lot of other sneakers that can get a little 'whiffy' after a day attached to your feet, the antimicrobial, moisture-wicking micropod insole will keep things dry and odor-free from dawn to dusk. Just in case you forget their provenance, signature Tasman braid details on the tongue and pull tab serve to remind you (if the next-level comfort hasn't already).

CA805 X Yokoo Self Portrait Sneakers

A word of advice: don't get too invested in the CA805 X Yokoo Self Portrait if you're the shy and retiring type. With their bright, bold style and plentiful use of color, these are not the sneakers for shrinking violets. If, on the other hand, you want to inject some new life into your sneaker collection, they're perfect. As kaltblut-magazine.com writes, the CA805 X Yokoo Self Portrait is part of the 12x12 collection, a new idea introduced by UGG at the beginning of 2020 that's seen them introduce a new theme every month with unique, limited edition pieces that celebrate the sources of the brand's inspiration. The aim of the collection is to paint a picture of California as seen through the brand's unique lens. It's already given us some extraordinary pieces, and the CA805 X Yokoo Self Portrait is no exception. To create this distinctive sneaker, UGG has turned to Japanese artist Tadanori Yokoo for inspiration. The result is something slightly wild, slightly wacky, and indisputably wonderful. Available in four colorful prints and featuring patterns and motifs taken from Yokoo’s iconic Self-Portrait, the sneakers channel the vibe of the 1960s with their revolutionary originality. But as you'd expect from UGG, strip them of their psychedelic outer layer and you'll still be left with what's essentially an immensely comfortable, practical shoe. Supple leather uppers, gloriously soft lambskin sock linings, flexible outsoles, cushy insoles... slip your feet into these, and they'll be thanking you for days.
